Default Windscreen washer jets

Hi, quick question on washer jets.

My '90 coupe has windscreen washer jets with a single slot headed screw at the top and an open slot in the side of the screw head where the washer water exits from. I think these are the heated variety as illustrated in the workshop manual.

The slot headed screw rotates to aim the direction of the water spray. Does this screw also adjust the amount of water coming out of the nozzle i.e., if unscrewed outwards will I get more water flow, or does it just rotate without affecting water flow rate?

Trying to sort out the very low flow rate out of my washer jets despite a new pump, clean fluid and I don't believe there are any blockages.

Cheers,
LeeP

I think they only adjust direction, not flow. If there is low flow, try putting some air through the nozzle backwards to flush out any dirt that might be in there. It's a very small orifice, so easily clogged. Perhaps also try pulling the tubing off the nozzle and seeing how much the pump puts out, you might have a tired pump or a kinked hose somewhere.

Thanks, I'll check that out. Thanks also for the super quick reply - 3 minutes, is that a record?

I could never get mine to flow nicely the water just fell out of the jet, as it turned out the jets had been poked around so much over the years it was non repairable. So fitted some thin jet easily obtainable jets. Now I have super car washers. Lol

RGP
I did the same, fitted three of them across the wiper grill, and fitted a Delphi headlight washer pump too. Brilliant, and as there is enough water on the screen the Lucas wiper motor is not strained either.

Hi rgp,

Can you remember where you bought your washer jets? I'm struggling to find any on-line that are thin enough to sit between the ribs of the black air intake grill. Do yours have a nut beneath to hold them in place or sprung lugs that engage when the jets are pushed down?

Thanks,
LeeP

On my car I used Ford Mondeo jets.

Thanks Greg - useful site.
Did the Mondeo jets fit between the ribs of the ventilation grill? On my grill it looks like the body of the jet would have to be 13mm wide max.
Cheers,
LeeP

They did fit, I might have had to just file them a touch, cannot remember. But they are between the ribs, no bother.

Thanks, I've ordered a set. Have also gone for a set to fit a Mondeo as a reserve following Greg's experience.
Cheers,
