Default Wipers not parking

Hello! I'm a new member to your forum and I could use some of your collective wisdom. I recently purchased a 1986 XJSC and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the windshield wipers not parking? I don't see any references to it in the manual I have. Any advice?

Usually is the switch on the steering column. If you have delay wipers, and they park after each single sweep, the switch is bad. New switch may not be any better according to Kirby Palm’s “Experience in a Book”.

Can you be more specific please? Do they just stop when you do the switch, or what? You have the Lucas wiper system in a 1986 car, later cars have the Electrolux system.
The stalk is part number AEU2527 and they are available, amazingly.
Just as likely as a stalk fault is the gizmo in th wiper motor that parks them:

That is why I asked about the delay operation; if they park in delay mode, the park switch on the motor is working.

Thank you for the replies! Because of your guidance I tried the delay mode and they do park while in delay mode. So at least I can get them out of my line of sight which is great.
