Default Wipers run when using turn signals (signals do not work)

I have a 1987 Jaguar XJS that sat for years and evidence of mice chewing through wires. Got it running after replacing wiring for starter relay (eaten by mice).
All wiring is coated with grime which I will be cleaning up. Was running through all electrical to see what is not working. Most things worked except turn signals. When i move the stalk for left or right indicator the wipers come on and the turn signals do not. Tried the hazard and they did not come on, but it did not start the wipers.

Seems there is short between turn signal and wiper wiring. I have looked through the Repair Operations Manual to see if I could find a place the wiring is together. Have not figured that out. Wiper wiring sounds like it is under the grill in front of windshield. Assume they must be close somewhere behind the dashboard.

Any suggestions on where to look are appreciated. I plan to just start cleaning and tracing wires from direction lights and wipers back towards their switches on the column.

Thanks
Douglas

A the wipers are on one stalk and the turn signals on the other, you may have a problem at the top of the column. I would remove the steering wheel and plastic trim round the top of the column and have a look. New turn signal switches are still available at David Manners.

Are you sure you are operating correct stalk. Wiper is RH indicator LH.
Opposite to a lot of other vehicles.

Yes, the wiper stalk operated the wipers and the turn signal stalk operated the wipers.
The wipers work when using the wiper stalk and also when using the turn signal stalk.
I found wires fused / melted together and the turn signal wire from that point was no longer connected.
Separated the wires, spliced in replacement sections where burnt. That fixed that problem. Went and checked all fuses and many of the Lucas fuses had been replaced with US fuses and were heavily over-fused.
Fixed all those.
Turn signals still did not work, Tested flasher relay and it was good. Hazard switch was bad and had to go clean the connector for the DI fuse because was getting intermittent 12V to the green wire in the Hazard switch connector.
Now all working. Thank to Greg in France for good suggestion.

.
That will no doubt be due to the differences in the rating systems used each side of the pond.

Yep, Even worse...some that should have been 10Amp Lucas, were fused with 25 Amp US fuses. I had three fuses that had the correct original fuses. Put in new fuses at about half of the listed rating to account for the difference between US / UK...Thanks
