That is the air intake tube and is still available from Jag. $39 at the dealer.

Default Air Intake Tube

I have been searching for the flex pipe between the air intake tube and the filter housing and found your thread going back 12 years!

I cannot find this part for my 1995 XJS 4.0 and was hoping somebody could give me some direction of where to look. I am told that the part has been discontinued.

Newington,

As you can see from Jaguar's parts website, the flex part is not a separate part. It is part of the Intake pipe EBC2403. That part is NLA, so just find a Jaguar parts breaker. It's the same part fitted to all 4 litre XJS from 1991-1996. A quick check on eBay and I saw one for $35 in Indiana.

Good luck

Paul

Thanks Paul. I found that one in Indiana, but no picture available. I've sent a picture request, but no reply.

It's the flex pipe in the picture, or the whole thing, I don't mind.

The one in Indiana is referenced as EBC2403 so one assumes it's the pipe including the flex part. As mentioned, the flex isn't a separate part number.

Cheers

Thanks Paul, I agree. I didn't get a picture from them, but I ordered it anyway, so fingers crossed!

As regards the mushroom / bobbin mounts that hold the filter canister to the inner wing, there's a Land Rover part that is a very similar size that fits. I replaced mine some years ago. I'll see if I can look up the Land Rover part number for you.

Cheers

Thanks Paul. This being my first XJS, there are a few things I need to learn about. I owned a few older XJ6's (4.2's and a 2.8) when I lived in Suffolk in my younger days and worked on them with a mechanic friend, but after moving to the US over 20 years ago, especially being in the south, I felt an open top XJS would be nice and I absolutely love it! I don't see any others around here, ever, so I do get a lot of waving and thumbs up and I can hear them say, what was that?!, lol.
But seriously, thank goodness for these forum groups, very helpful people out there to help with these little niggles (hopefully my issues stay with the little things!).
When I get the air tube flex pipe delivered, I can overhaul that whole air intake system, also checking to see if I need to replace the mounts and I have a new air filter on hand while it's apart. I'm having the brake system flushed next week, because the brakes are spongy at times, so I hope that will fix that, we'll see. Only other niggles are no horn and the windscreen washer doesn't work, I hear the motor, but no fluid, apart from on the floor when I operate the wash lever.

Cheers, Jeff

Jeff,

You have the early Teves ABS ststem on your car. Do not let anyone touch your brakes if they are not aware of the foibles of the system and the correct way to bleed it. The system is not like a traditional brake system, for example, the pressure of the brake pedal is not directly pushing fluid to the rear bdakes.

If you have any concerns on how the brakes should be bled, drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the correct procedure.

Cheers

Paul
