Default XJS #2 and a Question

Just picked up this '93 coupe to keep my '96 conv. company.
The question is about the switch in the lower left and the red light on the steering column. The inset is a sticker on the rear window. The switch looks like something someone added but the PO says it's a Jaguar system. Anyone ever seen anything like it?

Don't have a clue what that switch is for or the red light. I will say this LOVE THOSE WHEELS. They fit the wheel wells and the stance is puurrfect. Experimenting with new wheels can be expensive AND dangerous. I tried some wheels once on my 85' and ripped the inside of the sidewall all to hell, ruined the tires and I paid a lot for the rims. What are they and what size, and any rubbing on turns? I WANT SOME TOO!

My '90 XJ6/XJ40 Sovereign has the same window sticker. It also has the actual Jaguar Security System the sticker refers to, which is really pretty good. It does remote lock/follow me home headlights/global closure of windows and roof. Unlock/Trunk pop....... All from a single button.

The switch is probably the valet switch for the alarm. Dealers tended to put the switches in different locations depending on how they felt at the time.

Do you have the single button key fob ?

petemohr,

The sticker is that which is fitted with the standard security system. I would guess that the switch is either a valet switch (is there one in the centre armrest cubby?) or maybe a simple immobiliser switch. What does the switch do?

They're Eagle wheels with 245-45-17 Continental tires. I haven't experienced any rubbing but I haven't really given them a good workout. They do have some rather thick spacers behind them.

If you were closer I'd sell them to you cheap. I'm going back to the original 215-70-15's on Lattice wheels. I just like the old, original look.

Paul & Sarc - Thanks guys. It is the valet switch. I thought it was supposed to be in the center console. Guess the dealer just found it easier to put under the dash.

Nice wheels!

You might check the trim around the windshield and wiper motor area for leaks; something's been draining into the cabin.

Just pop your head under the dash and see where the wires lead to, right?

I can't imagine that is to arm the alarm system, I would guess more like turn on an electric fan or switch on a radar system.

Do you mind explaining the door in the picture? It looks like it should be a garage door, but it is covered in a wall of tiny bricks. I don't get what I am looking at.

It's a garage door that I was to lazy to close before I took the picture. There was a mess in there so I just "blocked" it over in Photoshop.

I have a '93 Coupe. and have the same sticker and red light. Valet switch is on steering column lower right. Do not have switch you circled. Also have 16" BBS wheels that look like the original 15" OEM wheels; agree with your taste in wheels. I think you will find that 16" tires are more plentiful than 15" tires

Good call.

I saw someone selling one of the rare 16 inch lattice wheels on eBay and wanted a lot of money for just one rim
