Default XJS 4.0 - Accelerator pedal heavy

Hey guys,
I have a question about an XJS 4.0 AJ16 (Celebration model from 1996).

The accelerator pedal is quite heavy which gives me the (subjective) feeling that the car is not really powerfull. It definitely is powerfull as soon as I push the pedal hard enough (so there is not a problem with the engine).
For example: My XJ40 (1993 4.0 AJ6) has a much easier accelerator pedal and therefore seems sportier to me (although the XJ40 is more heavy and the AJ6 has less torque and HP than the AJ16).

Is that heavy accelerator feel normal for the XJS? Or is there something I can do to improve that?

Thanks in advance and regards
Hendrik

241 horsepower moving a two ton (plus) car. A sportscar this is not.

To get more oomph out of this car, I would recommend adding "Andy's Bracket".

Hendrik,

I'm so used to mine, it's somewhat difficult to say whether I think the pedal is heavy.

Perhaps, you could start by disconnecting the cable at the capstan and then see if the cable pulls freely and the pedal hingepoint has no restrictions. Then check the capstan by hand and check that it turns freely with good spring return.

Cheers

Paul

Sticky throttle body butterfly is a common issue with this car. Best resolved by removing the throttle body and cleaning it. 10mm socket and some golf tees to plug up the coolant lines underneath is all you’ll need, actually a screwdriver to remove the clamps holding the plastic elbow to the throttle body as well.

Thanks Paul!
Thanks Vee!

I‘ll try that and give a feedback.
