That looks like the early Lister kit without the huge wings etc that were fitted on the later Le Mans models.

Cheers

Do you think it adds value to the car?

if you look at the cost of the Arden kit, I.e., 4150 euros, it’s worth almost as much as the car is worth.

No, the opposite. Most people are looking for original cars. That kit takes a classic car and makes it look dated.

IMO, if it was fitted in-period by the supplier and is verifiable through paperwork history, AND specifically if it has any supplier performance upgrades at the same time, then Yes, it does add to the value.

If that bodykit is genuine Lister, fitted by them and has any of their engine upgrades, then it makes for a very interesting car. In the UK, Lister XJSs make nice money at auction.

Cheers

Also the Hyper XJS bodykit was very similar to the 1st gen Lister kit. And I understand that there was a guy in Canada who was making copies of the Hyper bodykit only a few years ago. AND I believe that someone had versions of the original Lister kit only a few years ago as well. So there's a good chance that the kit could have been fitted much more recently than in-period.

There is only one "kit" I've seen that does the XJS justice, aside from Arden's tasteful improvements to both sedan and coupe cars (love their xj6 stuff) but this is a one off not a series.

See here:

personally I'd ditch the Tokyo Drift wheels...so out of place. Fit some TWR speedline or similar (theres a few brands in similar style) or gold honeycomb rims and raise it from 0 inchs clearance to something usable lol. Otherwise not bad on a car that is virtually impossible to visually improve on.

Its interesting in terms of body kits, comes down to personal opinion I believe.

When I was looking around for a car to restore, I wanted a muscle car, the body kit makes the XJS look like a muscle car.

The Simmons wheels sets off the body kit just perfectly (in my opinion)

Here is another one, same kit as the white one I think, a Rouge, I am told by the owner that it was a factory 'ground effect' option on this car. Looks to me to be very similar shapes to the full Lister. Check mud flap shape. Anybody know if it was an option in 1989? I kind of like it.

That kit wasn't a "Jaguar factory option" ever. I guess its possible that the customer could have bought the kit and had it fitted by the dealer? Far more likely that they were fitted later.

the only 'kit' that came from the factory for an XJS was the Jaguarsport XJR-s , this is not a TWR kit ( de-branded but similar as TWR worked in conjunction with Jaguar to develop the kit in the early days ) , and then they parted company . with Ford coming in i think ?

all other 'kits' were always aftermarket, and not sold by Jaguar cars ltd
(this is not saying you couldn't source an aftermarket kit and get your dealership to fit it ?? , like any bodyshop would.......)

my own car has a kit, as my car is a 'sportspack options equipped ' car, but not XJR-s , ( dont go there, lol )

BB and all -

What a great discussion of body kits and other things to look out for in an XJ-S.

I've recently got the bug to have one of these and have now looked at many online. One that bought my eye on car.com was indeed an undocumented Lister kit that looked pretty cool to me in red and was just like the one the original poster asked about at the beginning of this thread.

Its great that there are those who know what's real from Jaguar and all the aftermarket add-ons that look cool to an untrained eye.

I so much enjoy this site and it has saved me much trouble with my 05 XJ Super V8 in that forum.

I'll own one of these someday soon but will educate my self first!!!

Default 1988 Xj-S Cabriolet V-12 With Lister Mod package

Does anyone have the same Lister mod package that I do? It has the same front, rear and side panels with the spoiler but also has etched glass on all the windows with the LISTER logo. See pic
