Thank you very much! I will get to it, after initial welding and body prep is done.

Thanks,

The Defender has some odd colored panels on it but is getting a fresh coat of BRG soon. It's pretty neat, but waaaay slower than the Jag.

Paint? A truck like that needs some "patina".

Mustang, that car of yours looks fantastically smart. Really is the only improvement I have seen over the original HE/pre HE shape. I do not go for the TWR plastic sills etc. But that is quite lovely.

Have a look at this pic... was taken just before car was resprayed..... kind of interesting..... it seems to be the "weight" of the wrap around parts of the bumpers that makes the car look heavy..... take those off and it looks much nicer..... and you can still have 5mph impact bumpers :-)

Also taking the large side mirrors off makes it look much cleaner, although that's not too practical

BUMP.

just wanted to say that i did the bumper delete, but left the chrome blades. im cutting the protruding brackets and bolts from the blades so that it blends with the car better. i didnt like the look of the rear with no bumper due to the gas shock holes, and i cant afford the time or patience it takes to cut them, bondo them, and paint them. so instead i hacked up the gas shocks, took the black rubber off my rear bumper, and JB Welded the gas shocks at the bottom of their travel so that the old bumper sits flush with the bumper blade. it looks MUCH better. im in the process of polishing the aluminum bumper. i might paint it but im not sure.

i highly recommend this mod. the only thing keeping me from loving it is that i dont have a front spoiler. still looking for it.

ill take pics as soon as i get the bumper polished up and looking good.

heres a good pic. i cut the gas struts right before the adjustment bolt threads through the end of the shock. then i was able to adjust them accordingly. i polished the aluminum bumper with a brown bar and a grinder w/buffing wheel. i just cant put into words how much better this car looks.

My 2005 VDP was rear-ended yesterday and the bumper cover damaged. The other driver took off before I could get a license plate, so I am SOL on getting them to pay for it. A kid in my neighborhood pushed it back into place, but there is a crack in the back. I got the car in my recent divorce (that's all I got!) and I don't have any extra money for repairs or even my insurance deductible. Would it be advisable to remove it all together or leave it on without repair?

Emediex, I would just leave it on for now and worry about coming up with the money for repairs later. If you remove it and someone hits it again you'll have significantly more damage. It won't hurt anything to keep it on there.

I’ve been working on ideas for a nose mod for quite some time and imho it’s damn difficult to alter the XJS for the better. One thing I have found particularly curious is just how much of the breadth and presence of the front of this car is tied up in the bumper. I don’t think a complete bumper delete is possible without seriously diminishing the low, wide and powerful look.

In my nose mod concepts I’m currently back to almost stock, with a bumper mod; Stock blades, 1.25” thick rubber center then stock blades upside down for the bottom. Without the rubber center the blades welded up felt too thin for the car, and full chrome bumpers too old of a styling cue. Keeping the black rubber stroke full car width seems important visually.

A thinner bumper weight feels more balanced, but reveals a weak chin. The XJS nose has a significant overbite hiding behind there. This is where I’m currently stuck. Trying to find the right shape for new front lower panels that will bring the chin forward, define a grille opening that is in tune with the XJSs overall shape and yet stronger, more pronounced and capable of carrying off the newly revealed lower half of the nose.

i came across this thread a year or two ago. my xjs was in a terrible state and required a lot of welding, so whilst i was at it i went about de-bumpering and de-seaming. its a big undertaking. i also deleted the rear window side vents. the front stock grill arrangement once bumper is removed just looks wrong in my opinion, so i sourced an f-pace grill, and have started fitting it into the body. the challenge at the moment is making it look flush whilst maintaining hood opening functionality. i also ended up getting some deep section steel wheels, so have now widened the arches. not set on it being black, anyone have any good recommendations for a single stage metallic paint?
