It shows U shaped retainers going onto the spoiler top lip where the three lower grill studs would go through the spoiler top lip, and no retainers allowing the under tray to attach to the bottom of the spoiler, I do not think there should be any retainers on those three holes the grill studs go through.
I am going to assume that U shaped retainers slip over the holes in the front of the under tray, so screws can be installed from underneath though the lower lip of the spoiler.
is that correct?
I see no other way to attach everything together once the spoiler it attached to the car.
There are metal retainers, i will take a pic. I think there are 4 total.
ok, just went to check, you cant see them once the lower grill is in place. They are the same clips that hold the rubber bumper cover edges the the bumper frame.
there are 2 in the center and 1 at each side. They help hold the upper edge of the spoiler to the lower metal panel.
the clips do not align with the 3 pins of the lower grille.
I am referring to the plastic undertray (#11) that attaches to the bottom of the spoiler, there are perhaps 12 holes in the lower inside edge of the spoiler. Ok, I just saw the items I am referring to in the drawing, Item #5, off to the lower RH side of the spoiler in the drawing.
I am sure there is some sort of retainer washer on the L & R of the upper sides of the spoiler where it screws into the body. I can make something up, for those. It looks like the PO ground the screws off flat on the lower body panel when the car was painted, i can feel threaded studs up on the inside.
the lower edge of spoiler is held with what appear to be plastic rivets? Upon closer look of pics i dont think its a rivet, but its plastic for sure. Maybe not original??
Drawing indicates U nut, screw , ( I would assume most likely metal), and washer, on the bottom. I don't care about originality, I am going to use #10 screws and trim washers and some U nuts i ordered through McMaster Carr.
That PN 6 clip, i can make out of some thin sheetmetal
In the diagram it is items 4 and 5 that fix the tray to the bottom of the air dam.
But like you, AZD, I used small bolts all over the tray and spoiler joins, and spoiler to body joins, far better, and stainless ones mean they will come undone if needed.
There are also two fixings in the middle-line of the tray that hold it to the bottom of the cross member. These are numbered 12, 13, 14 in the diagram. 14 is a plasic bung that pushes in to the crossmember and the self tapper screws into it. If you can, I suggest replacing this bung with a rivnut and use a bolt to secure the middle of the tray. This fixing is important to properly secure the tray against the low pressure beneath it.
In addition, the join between the wheelarch baffle and the undertray rear is better properly supported. I used a length of ally L shaped angle, with rivnuts in it, to join the two edges. Anything that better supports the plastic is worhtwhile doing.
While you are in there, sealing with gunk all round the wheelarch baffles/stoneguards does wonders for rust protection. After 10 years of use I had to get a wheelarch baffle off, and all was BONE dry behind the baffle:
