Default XJS Factory fitted alarm.

Hello Everybody..
I have a 93 XJS with a factory fitted alarm..I can lock & unlock the doorswith the remote fob.The alarm beeps twice to say set and unset..However when i shut the engine off with the key and get out of the drivers door the alarm beeps twice again..So the fob is recognised by the alarm system, but for some reason i get these beeps when i open the door, with the alarm unset? Is this correct?
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks Martin

Hi Thanks for the compliment..I notice you have a lovely XJS Too...It looks very similar in colour to mine..Kingfisher Blue! is that correct? Yours is a couple of years newer, but i guess has the same alarm system/immobiliser fitted.. When unset if i open the passenger or drivers door it gives a doule beep as if it is being set..Does yours? Also i have to say i would love to have my XJSin a similar condition to yours once i have finished the light restoraton work...But that is one pretty car that would take a lot of beating.
Thanks again
Martin

Are your doors locked before you reach for the handle to exit the car? If so, then perhaps your car is passively armed (Dealer set option) and is giving you the unlock and disarm signal when you unlock it from inside, same as it would if you used the transmitter from outside. I read though the Security System handbook from a '94 (JJM 10 22 99/32)andthere is nothing specific as it pertains to your comment, so mine is the best I can come up with.

Hi Thanks for taking the time to investigate and for replying to my question..The doors are not locked from the inside..Even if i leave the car and shut the door and walk round and open the passenger door it makes the setting bleeps on that door too. i havent tried the boot to see if that bleeps..Its seems that the bleeps shouldnt be happening is my guess..Not too annoying but maybe late at night arriving home itmayrankle a little.. I changed the battery on the key fob and disconnected the car battery to re-set the alarm..Still didn't make a difference..If anyboy has had the same problem or knows a re-set system i would love to know.
Thanks Martin

Well, give this a shot.

Disconnect the battery for 5 min at least. Reconnect it. arm the car. Open the drivers door with the key. Check you body grounds. My alarm went haywire when I removed the ground by the engine.

See what happens.

Hi Thanks I have tried that but when i re-connect my battery and try and arm, the horn just blasts whenever i push the fob button..I then have to unlock the car with the key and lock it again..Then i push the button and the alarm fob works as normal...Still get a double beep when i open any door?? Driving me nuts!
Thanks
Martin

Very old thread, but l will try and give an answer ('92 V12). To set the passive alarm, so called dealer option, find the two unplugged yellow wires in the alarm harness and either plug them together to activate or unplug to de-activate the passive system. I believe the car will not lock and beep on door or trunk opening when the valet switch is activated.
