XJS Rear struts

Default XJS Rear struts

I'm a fairly new owner of 1993 xjs CONV 4.0.
I just replaced the inboard brakes, rotor and calipers...big job...about 10 hrs work! Removed the four struts with springs attached. Noticed one of the four was leaking...never noticed a ride or car level concern...Re installed them. My question is this: is there any real problem with replacing only the leaking one? Or maybe two ( matching one on each side)?
Also not sure about the way to remove the spring attached to the strut...to reuse. Car is low mileage. 45,500 miles. Any suggestions are appreciated.

No, there is not, as the spring can be re-used. The leak is just the shocker, which detaches from the spring by releasing a collar thingy. Mind you, a set of OEM type Boges is not that dear, and the others are probably well past their best, so if you can run to it, changing them all while you are at it will make a noticeable ride quality improvement. If you look at the springs when off, check that they are all the same height unloaded. If they are not, then the springs are going home too.

You remove the strut by compressing the spring. I use a set of spring compressors like these.

Takes forever to tighten each one a little bit as you work your way around the spring. Not hard to do, though. Once you've compressed enough, the collar releases and the strut can be removed - it's the spring tension that holds it all together.

I would just do all four rather than the one leaking.

Thank you guys, Good advice. I will replace them all and see if I can remove the springs...This will be a fun, improvement project.

I use my shop press and a couple of cylindrical spacers made for the purpose. Those spring compressors scare me.
