XJS spoke wheels, color change?

Not a bad idea. Have also considered taking them to a chrome shop near here. A buddy suggested flipping them over and painting the inside of the spokes black while leaving the outside surface Silver. Don't know yet, just toying with ideas and do not particularly want to go with aftermarket, although decent tires for these things are getting hard to come by.

You could try to do one wheel and use it as the spare if it doesn't work out..

I have chromed lattice wheels on my 90 convertible. The rim outers and the spoke faces are chrome and the inside surfaces are black. My car is white and I like the look. I looked around at after market wheels, but, nothing really seems to fit with the lines of the car, at least to my eye! There are a lot of the chromed wheels here in So. Cal., in fact I didn't know they weren't a factory chrome wheel until after I bought the car.
I don't know how to post pics or I would have included one.
I must confess that I'm a little bit stuck in the past when it comes to wheels. There aren't many after market wheels of any style that I really care for these days.
Did I mention that the longer I own this car, the more I like it!!! There's just something about it.

Just perusing craigslist recently I came across this XJS with wheels painted to match the body paint. No affiliation to sale. I actually like the look on this car. The description states everything is as it came from the factory, but the painted wheels would have been a dealer or aftermarket item right?

Just went through the same quandry. I had the starfish wheels and finally found a set of lattice. I had my wheel painter try a few things, including the black lattice with silver rims. That was my first choice until I saw them. In my area, there are a LOT of rice burners running around and they have black lattice or spoked wheels with chrome/aluminium rims so I decided on a Hyper silver finish. He just finished them and i mean AMAZING!!!
It's a black base with layers of silver flake embedded in clearcoat. It sounds sketchy but really looks amazing. We went with four layers of silver over the black so the color is a deep silver with a faint dark edgy feel. The inner surfaces of the lattice are more black than silver since the metallic won't hit it evenly. At first it bugged me but now it seems totally intentional.
My 88 XJS is being totally repainted paino black from signal red so I haven't installed the wheels yet. Supposed to have back in two weeks so I'll send photos.

when you say wire do you really mean wire?? My XJS is one of the few with daytons that i have seen and it looks **** hot compared to the wheels on other. If you have wires id keep them chrome. Black on black ...id get something new anyway because none of the stock XJS wheels are big enough for that to look good, get some 17s in black and maybe you'll be straight

i don't really see that as fair, and it seems the only point would be to feel better somehow because you have "REAL" wire wheels. Who cares?? Jaguar no longer used them when they got to the XJS, but the ones used still are REAL daytons that looks nearly as good.
While i dislike the spinner as it isn't well attached, i also don't like the idea that the splines on my MGB will at some point wear out, so there are pros and cons.
either way unless you are talking about painted ones on an older car why the hell would you paint chrome wires? unless they are totally crap and need to be rechromed I don't know why anyone would do that.
Even then they would be painted silver or maybe black. I've seen some older stuff with a very dark green as well but never "colors" like yellow or blue...

Not sure about the 18 inch wheels, but I know there some 17 inch wheels that fit the XJS. That's a big step up from the stock 15's. The 1995-97 XJR had a 17x8 wheel that would accept a much wider and thinner tire. I have seen plenty of pics of them on XJS cars, which makes them one of the rare larger wheels that are a direct fit.
