Default Xjs v12 pre-1992 no power to fuel pump

Hello, No power on wire to fuelpump ( No power from ign. to pump-relay-pin 86 ) Pin 87 is supposed to power the pump. There is power on pin 30. When connecting 30 to 87, nothing happens Connecting 87 to 30 to 86, makes the relay pull-in for some 3 seconds only. Stll nothing on the pump-wire. Is there a fuse(s) which controle(s) this relay?. Hope some-one can help. Tks. Jean ( Was on the wrong forum)

I sincerely hope that some whiz reads my problem (no fuelpump power etc. ) and gives me some good advise as to how to go about it to fix this problem. Jean

Here's what I can find.

Power is controlled by the EMS relay, which controls a lot of other stuff. Jumping 30 to 87 should send power from 30 to the wire for the pump. Note, if you really have a v12, there are two pumps in the tank. Two relays as well. I've been able to jump the relay for the secondary pump just to get the engine running.

Remove the forward trunk panel that covers the tank and remove the white connector on top of the tank that has the wires for the pumps in it. Get a volt meter and check for voltage at those pins when jumping the relays. If all is well there and 12 volts shows on both sets, then the tank must come out. It is not uncommon for those pumps to go bad over time.

Here are the wire colors for the connector at the tank

Pump 1
B+ blue/red
B- black

Pump 2
B+ brown/orange
B- black

Simply put,
put a jumper across the relay with the tank connector undone and use your volt meter to check the power and ground in one shot at the tank connector using those wire colors. You should see 12 volts at that tank connector.

Hi Mark, Tks for the reply. However I have a situation here. Although my registration docs(South African) refer to a 1995 model V12, it appears to be a pre-1992 model. Both fuel pump and filter are externally fitted.VIN no : SAJJNAEW3BB143065.
Have also noted that there is NO power on both relays pin 86 (power from ign. when on?) Pump works and motor starts when connection directly to battery. But I have to reset the cut-off swith fitted every 20 secs or so, else motor dies. Does the large black "relay-box" have anything to do with power to pump wires? LUCAS 7EM DAC 2589 Is there no fuse at all for the ign. power and relays? Your qualified reply will be very much appreciated. Jean

I'll have to dig into my old stuff for that old of a car. That seems to be between 1985 and 1989 I think.
