Default 07-09 XKR rear tail light works /brake light out

Hey all. 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible. Left rear tail running lights work but the brake light is out. Sensor is flashing on the dashboard, brake light not working. Bought a new OEM bulb that works for the running lights only, but didn't fix the break light problem. The bulb is 'hot' and dark on one side which is telling me I have a wiring issue on the brake side or the outlet?. The bulb filament is still in tact on both sides but the bulb definitely ran hot. Is a bulb outlet replacement needed? Grounding issue? I don't think need a whole new rear left tail light harness as the rest of the lights are good. I will add that the the brake light sensor went off and on for a few weeks before it said, broken. New to this...many thanks in advance.

It could be a ground issue. McJag222 pointed out that the turn signal ground should be checked. Pull the front wheel and look for a small stub coming from the lower part of the frame. Should have two wires attached.

Surely the running light element of the bulb uses the same ground as the brake like element
way to check the new bulb is to try the bulb from the other working side.
Being careful of the pointed end of the cluster. You don’t want to break the tip off.

This has been on threads here before with new bulbs not working
