Default 07 xkr battery tender 12v / cigarette lighter connection?

Is anyone maintaining their battery by plugging trickle charger directly into the 12v port ? I used to just plug into the 12v on my last 911 with no negative effects, I'd imagine it would be fine for the xkr? Just want to double check. Thanks

The cigar(ette) lighter gets disconnected from 12VDS within 30 minutes of vehicle shutdown, so that won't work.

It won't work on the X150 models because the cigar lighter circuit is switched. That means there is no electric power to the lighter socket when the car is off.

You may think it'll work because there's power to that socket after you've turned off the engine. That's because the car stays in Convenience Mode for around 20 minutes before the computer shuts off most of the circuits.

Welcome to the Forum! You're a newbie, so be sure to read this:

You should add an automatic signature with details about your car. It can be short like Cee Jay's or overkill like mine. It helps to know when answering questions, as there are significant differences between model years.

You'll probably want to get a battery maintainer. This old thread will help you decide what you want to buy and how you want to hook it up, as there are many choices.
