Default 08 XKR In Need Stereo Upgrade

Enthusiast,

I have an 08 XKR with the standard stereo system. I would like to have built-in XM Satellite capability such as the "2009" and newer models. Is there any way to accomplish this task with OEM stereos "OR" is there an after market stereo system capable of handling all of the other various components to include heated seats, heated Steering wheel, Valet and etc??

I'm in the USA Washington DC area......

Jeff, this was available as an option in the US since 2007. I believe your local dealer would be able to install and configure the 'Satellite Digital Audio Radio System (SDARS)" module as Jaguar calls it to add to your factory system.

Jeff, I also have an '08 XK and my stereo system has the satellite tuner built into the system, including the antenna. I doubt your existing stereo unit can act as the actual XM tuner, so you'll have to get a tuner box, which you can have installed out of sight (below a seat) and wired to your existing radio. The antenna will likely be a flat, dash mounted unit about a Square inch in size. I would suggest you find a good car sterio shop for the install, rather than the dealership. A good installer will make sure all wiring is out of sight. Some of these guys are wizards.

Jeff - I am surprised that your 08 doesn't have the satellite option built in. I'm pretty sure the satellite receiver was standard on all 08's. Do you have the satellite antenna built into the lid of your trunk just in front of the spoiler?

I had an 08 xk vert prior to my current 12 and it did have the satellite option built in. If you have the owners' manual take a look at it and see what it has to say about the satellite receiver. If you don't have the manual there is a pdf of the manual somewhere in the forum website. If the above doesn't help play with the touchscreen menu on the left side of the screen. You should find something there that will tell you how to get it operating. Good hunting.

No idea with an 08, but my 07 build sheet included what Jag called "Satellite Digital Audio Prep" which in my case says the wiring harness is there in the trunk along with the mount, but not the actual receiver or antenna.
From most comments here, I take it the OEM unit is sub-par, so I dropped my idea of buying that particular unit.

Just 2 cents for the conversation...

Adding an aftermarket satellite radio requires an aux-in audio connection. To do this, the Jaguar ACM would need to be added to the car for the best quality. The other approach is an FM radio modulated satellite radio, but the sound quality will not be as good. In either case there would be an additional control panel. A non-Jaguar Satellite radio tuner box cannot just plug into to the factory radio and use the factory screen.

The original poster appears to want a system fully integrated with the display screen...that is also why I think the dealer installed version is best for him. I have had no issues with my OEM satellite radio.
