Default '12 XKR at the drag strip

Hello all...

I'm a new owner and new to the Jaguar world in general. Just two months ago I picked up a 2012 XKR...love it so far Prior to this I had an '06 S65.

Just got back from the track to see how the car would do bone stock, right to the OEM street tires.

I gotta say, I'm really happy with the starting point!

12.25 @ 115.7

60' 1.871
660' 5.257
1/8 7.975 @ 90.95
1000' 10.291

Hey Jay, good to see another Supraforums alumni join us! I hope you enjoy your XKR as much as I do. I guess it was just a matter of time until you'd hit the strip...took me almost 24 hrs to get mine on the road course. Nice times btw!

Hey, ha...thanks for the reminder - just posted over there.

Good to see you over here too, I've read a few of your posts here, def good to see another supra owner here. Certainly a different crowd here (what no Drag Racing section?!).

hahaha...yeah, track is just too close to my house to not go and it def got alot of looks. My drag radials showed up today, so looking forward to a return trip to the track. I bet it goes 11.90's stock on drag radials easy.

How's the car on the road course? I have R academy coming up, so I'm pretty excited about that - never been on a road course!

Awesome, I was just there last Friday. This may be a helpful primer...

There's a couple of other members who may be getting into tracking, and doing the R Acedemy, and a bunch of others with previous experience so this topic should get interesting. And I'm sure we'll all be watching your drag adventures with great interest. If your 0-60 was ~4 sec you'll be the record holder here so far by about 0.4 sec!

Did a quick burnout, I probably stayed in the burnout for 1-2sec once I saw smoke and then foot off the brake and dragged the car to the line.

Think I left maybe 1200-1500rpm (not 100% on that though) and def was not WOT until the car was well past the line. Street tires simply can't take a WOT launch.

Car was in auto mode / sport mode with Dynamic mode also on and Traction control completely turned off. Let the car shift itself.

Interesting. At a jag driving event the instructors recommended leaving tc on to let the car's electronics assist the launch. I also read in a article that the Xkr-s did best in trac dsc- 0-60 in 3.8 sec. Now u go with tc off! 3 different ways to launch the car-all seem effective

Ha...yeah. Well, Not sure how the instructors could recommend leaving tc completely on. I'm by no means an expert, but there's no way I can get behind that. It's not like these cars have Launch Control.

I could potentially see how Trac DSC could get you a good number. It does allow some slipping before it steps in. Turning it completely off...well...you really have to be careful - too much throttle and you'll run the pass or acceleration run. But at the track, the launch pad is pretty sticky and I wanted to at least haze the tires before the pass too.

Next time I'll make some passes in Trac DSC and with it completely off, stay tuned

But really, I'm not believing leaving it completely ON is the way to go. Way too intrusive as soon as a tire slips it'll pull timing, etc and short shift into second.

Best,
Jay

I attended the Jaguar Alive event maybe 3 months ago in Phoenix.
I have an in-car video (also shows speedo and G meter) from my 0-80-0 run in a (stock) 2012 XKR-S.
Dunno if you guys would like me to post it. (If so, how?). It might be useful for comparisons. The instructor also talks a lot about the choice of TC modes etc.
I kicked myself later for not noticing what tyres they were running. They felt great.

I kinda feel wierd about posting a video with a lot of me in it to youtube.
Is there a place here to do it, or some way to do it so only forum members can see it?
