Default 2007 Jaguar XK key fob please help

Hello new to this forum. Bought my first jag. I got a 2007 jaguar xk on the cheap due to divorce off the guy I bought ir from. Car runs great shift great but have an issue with key. It only came with one key and only starts when docked. It doesn't lock or unlock with the fob.. ive had a few 911s and amgs and never experienced this issue. Does anyone give me an idea on where to start I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I would definitely start by replacing the battery in the fob. It will be a CR2025 or CR2032 (from memory, the latter I think but check online).

Thank you Richards the thing is the fob has no battery in it and it will start when docked due to the LF antenna on the console from what I gathered.. now I put a new battery 2 in fact after another and still doesn't work. I really love this car and eant to get it sorted right.

I understand it's a "type 1 " key fob which people say are extremely hard to program /add a key. Is this correct? Isn't it a ford secure system after all?

maybe need a new FOB? when i bought my 2007 xkr it only came with one key fob and it was starting to fail. i ordered a couple new ones online and was able to get a local guy (I live in Connecticut) to program them and cut the key. the whole process was quite seamless

The battery contacts in the fob are very delicate and easily broken. I would inspect them closely as the battery may not be actually connecting to the fob electronics. You’ll probably need a new fob if that is the case.
And definitely have two working fobs and emergency keys. My car only came with one fob and the emergency key didn’t work. I ordered a second set from my local dealership and had them program the new fob as could not find any local locksmiths to do the job. A local locksmith was able to cut a spare emergency key once I had a working one. Very expensive but worth my peace of mind.

Awesome thanks I'll order a fob and ask the local Smith if he can do the job. I called the local dealer and was told they can't order keys anymore so guess I'm on my own. I really like my jag ..first jag .Thanks a bunch for you help fellas.

that was exactly the problem with my first key fob ( broken connection with battery ). i was able to jury rig it with a piece of wire and jam it all together to get it to work until i was able to get the replacement fobs. dealership would have been very expensive. i ordered a replacement from car and truck remotes for about $60 ... and programming cost about $115 ( the guy i used programmed two keys for the price of 1 ).

Graham - The supplier mentioned in the above entry should go in the stickies wherever appropriate. I am showing the link below:

I did find out from SNG Barrett this morning when I was on the phone with them ordering a wheel sensor that US key fobs are 315Mhz if that question ever pops up (I was figuring out if the TPMS sensor was 433Mhz or 315Mhz, it's 315Mhz).
