Default 2007 Top won't go down

2007 XK

My son fell asleep at his soccer tourney last week with the car off but the a/c was blowing on him. Ran the batt down so we had to jump it. Now the top won't go down. I keep getting the "luggage cover isn't in place" message but it is in place. I didn't get an owners manual with this car so I can't turn to that. Any help?

Thanks in advance.

That luggage cover is a tricky thing.
Try taking it out and the putting it back in again, making sure to fully deploy it (I just bumped mine once when putting something into the trunk, and that dang message came up and the top wouldn't open).

I know it's properly seated. I've taken it out and put it back in at least 6 times. I can see where it fits and it's perfectly in the spot.

I'm guessing here that you jump started it by removing the cover and the battery cover to get at the battery. If so then when you put it back together you either have the cover in wrong or you damaged the switch. Re-check your work. If you did not touch the cover and used the jump points in the rear left side of the boot then you have a switch failure.

Or maybe it needs to be manually lowered using the special wrench located in the fuse box in between the rear seats in order to reset the system. I think there's a thread on this. I'm on my cell and can't search for it.

When this happens you need to keep your finger on the button for at least 30 seconds to get it to retract again. Also reset the windows using the globle positioning on the key fob. This worked for mine after a battery change.

How do you do the global positioning on the key fob? I know sure the luggage cover is seated correctly. I have no clue where the switch is so maybe I did damage it?

Is the luggage cover not just seated properly, but also deployed? Also, your boot must be shut for the top to operate.

Thanks Tommy. I just realized in my original post I didn't say everything going on. The two back small windows both go down and then the process stops. I'll try the key process and also manually lowering the top. I HATE not having an owners manual.

If you have the 'luggage cover is not in place' message, nothing else you do will get the top to move until that is resolved. I do not recommend manually operating the top under these circumstances...it will just complicate the situation.

You can also download the manual for free from http://topix.landrover.jlrext.com/to...cle/lookupForm

Are there any metal pieces on the connections of the luggage separator? I see where there are two metal "post" so to speak on the car itself where the separator sits but nothing metal on the separator itself. I just found a little metal clip laying in my trunk and I have no clue where it came from.

Just metal springs. The sensor is magnetic that detects when the separator shade is in the full open position. The sensor is built into the left side bracket.

I'm at a loss. I know it's seated correctly. I can see that it's flush across the bottom of where the separator sits. I guess I'm going to have to find someone to check it out.

Any recommendations in the DFW area?

Ok, it's seated correctly.
Is it fully deployed and locked in place with the tongue pointed up?
And the trunk is fully closed?

Bummer if that's all true.
Hope you get it fixed easily.

If you REALLY want to go to a dealer, I got my XKR from Park Place Jaguar, 5300 Lemmon Ave. Dallas. Nice people, never had a complaint.
However, any reputable independent repair shop should be able to find the problem.

No one has yet mentioned the obvious: the problem started with the battery being run down. Low voltage in the XK results in random electronic issues, and yes, that does include the operation and latching of the convertible top. Job 1 here is to ensure that the battery is putting out full voltage - full voltage.
Virtually all complaints regarding electrical components on the XK are solved by simply ensuring a constant full voltage supply.

No warnings. Just says the luggage thing isn't in properly.

The battery was run down and I actually had to take it in to get it charged. I will check the voltage this evening. What voltage should I be getting if it's good?
