2007 XK noise @ start up

2007 XK noise @ start up
Help, car started making this noise this week.
Sucked out most of the power steering fluid as the manual requires, replaced with new (Dexron III). It was a bit low but not all the way down, still red, but dark red.
Still does it....... maybe my Power steering pump is kaput.
The noise subsides and does not vary with steering input. Maybe it's not the PSP?
BTW, took the car cross country last year and I think I heard this at start up after our stop at Devil's Tower.....noise went away after a bit, never thought of it again, until now.
