Default 2007 XK Straight Pipes

Hi Guys
I had a muffler shop unbolt my stock 2007 XK's muffler and cut off the stock exhaust tips and welded them up to straight pipes, still retaining the singular stock resonator and cats.
First time making a video, so fore give the shakyness, driving and trying to paddle shift and switch hands holding the Iphone.
I hope you can hear it. It's actually a lot louder in person so it may not be for everyone. I certainly get plenty of looks now.
I might put a small muffler inline later, but enjoying the noise for now.
the best part is that it cost me only $260.
Heres the link...I hope it works

Also saved about 20lbs taking out the muffler. I was surprised how light it was.

That sounds "too much" for me. Did you lose any low end torque?

Hi Mosesbotbol
I don't believe so, but the sound is so different than stock so I feel like I'm going so fast now! Seat of the pants it's all smiles. Quiet at idle by the way. I still get the back pressure from the cats and resonator. I have to up shift or coast going by cops now.
Just wanted to share a very inexpensive way to get a cool sound.

In the video you are driving it like manual; and in so doing miss or quickly drive through the drone area of around 1200-1300 rpm.

For aftermarket mufflers suggest you review Dynomax VT. They are cheap at about $100 ea. They will give you very nice sound and reduce drone to stock levels.

Then for maximum noise look into electric exhaust cut-outs between the cats and the resonator.

Those dynomax VT would be the ticket. I will probably go with those if I get tired of the noise.
I couldn't get it to drone at 1200-1300 rpm but wasn't on the freeway. I'll try to pay more attention to that and report back. This weekend ill try to get a video from the outside of the car too. I'm curious!!

Obviously exhaust note is all a matter of opinion and preference. so if you love it, than it is perfect.

To share my 2 cents. i think the sound is great. However, it is not fitting of the car you drive. My opinions make me think our cars should sound something like a cross between an Aston Martin and a Ferrari,

If i were to be blind folded and have the guess the car. I am going to be thinking it sounds like a mustang. i guess this would be because it is so low pitched.

To sum things up, it sounds great. And if that is the sound you are going for, it is perfect! And thank you for sharing, I was curious to know what these cars would sound like if completely opened up.

Also, you make we want to ship my car over to Hawaii and drive around a bit.

You took the words right out of my mouth. It sounds like an American muscle car now, maybe even a more refined NASCAR stock car or something of that nature.

It sounds alright to me, but the stock or lightly modified XK/R exhaust has such a distinctive sound, I wouldn't want to change it too much.

I first eliminated both resonators to compliment my Mina Gallery muffler system. Too much drone. So I added in one resonator. Still too much drone. So I put both resonators back on and now just enjoy the more sophisticated sound.

At first I liked the raw non-resonated sound. But drone is completely out of character for this car. I also thought that sound like a Vette or long duration deep tone slow plap-plap fart sound wasn't in keeping with the car's svelte demeanor. So even though I generally love a loud aggressive exhaust I think I now realize a little louder than stock is perfect for this car - think XKR-S. Only loud at full song.

Here are some of my last toy with open exhaust

XKR with no resonators. Note the backfires etc. Cool but drone got old.

Another but I think this is after at least one or both resonators are on. Yes the wife got too happy and left me for dead.
