Default 2007 xkr fuel pump question

I went to pick up my ‘new’(to me) 2007 XKR yesterday, it wasn’t meant to be.

The owner stated that it started but stalled, out of gas. He put 3 gallons in it and drove to gas station. On the way there the engine started misfiring, restricted performance and an overheating warning.

Put 10 gallon it the tank, drove home where I was waiting.

I scanned the stored codes…all 8 cylinders had been miss firing, left and right bank lean, fuel pressure issue and an overheating code I didn’t bother reading at the time. The car wouldn’t start.

The owner has sent it on a jag repair facility.

After reading quite a few horror stories of the fuel pump + tank I’m curious if the fuel pump can be replaced and if so how could debris enter the pump (if the sock is in place) and would the external fuel filter catch all other foreign matter?

Any and all shared experience or knowledge would be appreciated.

car overheated or thinks it’s overheating and went into protection mode (deliberate misfire). this was invented by GM for the northstar and has been copied by everybody

at like 300f you reach cut off and the car shuts itself down. valve seats often drop and possible head damage

^^ agreed, get the codes.

As far as I know, a failed fuel pump will throw fuel pump codes, not just low/high pressure codes.

Have you tried resetting the battery?
