So a few days ago my 08 XKR decided to stop

Got it towed and they said the fuel pump was gone

2k later it is fixed - that is a very expensive fuel pump

1) Is it normal for the fuel pump to go so soon

2) 10min after leaving the garage CEL came on, my ODBII reports P0420 code

I called the garage and they said drive it for a while and it will clear

I have driven it on and off all day and it is still on

I hate to think of taking it in yet again, anyone replaced the fuel pump and had this code appear - will it clear itself given time like they are telling me

How do you know it was the fuel pump, did they tell you that. That code came on on mine but before that is went to limp mode and stopped. One of the cats was gone, and it chocked the car, so had to get it replaced, this could be your problem from the start.
