If this is the steps to remove then it may not be so bad i was thinking i needed to remove the whole of the dash
Got to the raise the steering column finisher but i when raising it it certainly doesn't give easy access to the bolts that are there. The finisher is also on a 'spring' mechanism at both ends which looks very fragile and difficult to replace
Any suggestions?
Will see if i can get the bolts at an angle but starting to get a bit pensive around this
I think the problem is that the column cannot be moved so cannot lower it to lift the finisher far enough to get to the bolts that are there

Here is the high speed Can Bus diagram. Let us know if you need help deciphering it. IP = Instrument Panel for example. Diagnostic connector = OBD II port and then each connector has a pin number. Infinity symbol around the wires means the wires are twisted. Attached is a guide that tells you where each connector is located. Use the search field and it's easy to use.

well managed to get the cluster out but likely a hard job to reconnect those springs on the finisher panel although i will trade that off with getting it going again
what should i be testing here? i know how to use a multimeter but I am not an electrician advice would be greatly apprieciated

Try using a different USB port on your laptop, see if it reads the VIN then. What date is on the laptop? Set the laptop date back to something like 8/1/2012. Then start SDD. Just give that a try. Also, it's helpful when taking screenshot to back far enough away so we can see the full screen, including which program you're in.

Pharos,
You have been mixing open forum and private messages in the effort to resolve your problem.
Good folks have been duplicating the effort of others. Forum watchers miss a learning opportunity not seeing private message content.
Most of the folks that have responded here have been working with/learning SDD for ten years or so (as of 2023).
It will take a bit of time/effort to come up to speed using SDD.

Consider the following:
a. take a break for a day or two.
b. spend time surfing/learning SDD
c. Read, read, read

Go to the "Sticky" at the top of the XK/R forum. Download and read wiring diagrams and service manuals to become familiar with XK resources.

Review the CCF help document for general learning:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...p-document.pdf

IDS_SDD Getting Started:
jaguar f-type docs - Dropbox

IDS-SDD Training Doc:
jaguar f-type docs - Dropbox

It will be more productive for you to learn how to use SDD, rather than how to repair the current issue directly.

Please stick to the open forum communications rather than using private messages. Then we can coordinate assistance and others can learn by watching.

You can do this, just take your time.

Best regards, Bill

PS: Double check your battery. The most common issue impacting failure to start, strange lights and every conceivable XK issue is LOW Voltage!
Have you cleaned the battery terminals with a purpose-built wire brush?

Jumping in here; I bought my SDD set-up (2) months ago, and have been reading / viewing (You Tube) everything I can find about SDD before I dive in to connecting it up. Thanks much for the additional notes. Being a techie, this is normal bed-time reading material for me.

Installed win xp 32 bit, which recognised jlr sdd vv1.3, however it does not recognise the gateway (vxmanager), played around all day to see if i could get it to recognise that, starting with Vxmanager V1.2. it cant see the vcx. Suggestions are switching it usblan, but there is no choice of that.
Could not find the mother version of vx manager after hours and hours of searching (lots of links but all dead) that was anywhere tried to find (v.1.0, v1.2, v1.4. v1.5. v1.6) the latest v1.8 which will, as far as i can see (this is not a win32 program) it will not install on winXP
The vcx multiplexer was released after win xp so looks like it will not work with anything prior to win 7

So started again on win 7 tried 32 bit but no go. installs jlr sdd v1.3 vxmangaer 1.2 installs but does not recognise the vcx unit. Googling it say switch it to usblan but there is no option to do that

Tried win 7 pro 64bit, installs vxmanager but no go on jlr sdd v130 passwords will not accept etc.

has anyone got a copy of vx manager 1.4, 1.5, 1.6

Alan,
Via PM, I advised that you use SDD V 150 or earlier. I assumed that: 1. you are using an "off-line" version. and 2. versions above V150 do not include VDF Vehicle data files.
Vehicle data files are a hidden archive of complete data files for all JLR vehicles from the early 2000s through the date of release of that version.
Beginning with V151, you must be on-line to access those files unless downloaded previously. I am not aware of any method to access the data files without a subscription when using V151 or later. If there is another legitimate way to access JLR data files, someone please speak up.

Since it appears that you may need to reprogram modules in your 2007 XK, I recommended V150 or earlier.

Complete vehicle data files are stored by VIN. So, if your friend has access via archive or on-line, he can access the file for you by using your VIN.
You should then be able to use the data file with your V160s SDD. (I've not done it.)

I currently use Panasonic CF-53Js with exchangeable hard drives. This allows quick changes between versions through V150.
Since the XKs were manufactured through about V138, there is no requirement to use later versions. I am not aware of XK software revisions beyond V138.
Again, if anyone knows different, please speak up.

Having said that V138 is sufficient, please know that later versions of SDD got better and better. Later V140s and V150 are excellent, really slick. However, I believe that later SDD versions may restrict some exploitation done with earlier versions.

VID: Vehicle interface device: I purchased a JLR MongoosePro from DrewTech in 2014. No longer available, so I purchased a clone for back-up from my china friends named for OBD and number of days in the year. It seems to work well but I don't use it to program since I purchased the original from Mrs. Drew(?) in Ann Arbor by phone.

Hope that this ramble helps.

Keep us posted.

Bill

PS: If your friend has a Panasonic CF-52, 53 or similar series and you have the same series (say CF-52A) you can clone his drive and it should work for you.

Hi Bill the version I was given originally is v164 which has all files present
I obtained v130 which also has all the files present but also has the pin point checks you mentioned in a previous post which v164 doesn’t have
v164 runs fine on the laptop and connects to the vcx
v130 starts and runs fine on the laptop but I cannot get it to connect to the vcx.
v130 also has a selection to use the mongoose and drew
i think the vcx is newer so the driver/manager program that I have which is v1.84 or something doesn’t work in XP
i did some searching for an older vx driver/manager but every link that I could find goes to a file that is no longer available, the retailer with the days of the year was one of the links I tried
I have seen the mongoose being talked about so perhaps I need to see if I can buy one

awaiting mongoose to arrive so i can explore v130
can confirm that v130 seems to have more 'options' than v163 and v164

It cannot be overstated that low battery voltage is the most common source of ALL types of electrical/electronic problems in the 2007-2015 XK/R.

Battery support, nominal 50A, should always be provided when working on the XK/R. Simply having a door open will reduce battery voltage surprisingly fast.

The best way to avoid extraneous battery drain is to close doors and lock the car.

PS: Though usually correct, I don't trust the off-line SDD to confirm battery state of charge. Consider a voltmeter of some sort.

Hi Bill

Jaguar documents say that 50amp is for 2010 onwards and that 25amp is sufficient for pre 2010 for supply units when SDD connected section C of the attached.

The problem still is that there is no position 2 so no power to seemingly interrogate any system that requires the ignition to be on. let alone program/reprogram it

the battery has been tested and found to have no fault that the auto electrician could find, i have also tested with multimeter and getting good voltage. SDD also shows battery to be supplying sufficient voltage

Ignition switches are known to fail. Start by cleaning the contacts of oxidation.
There is the one in the consul and another one behind the dash.
