I wonder what he means by manually shifting it
i can’t see how it would make any difference Taki g the console apart as surely the solenoid would still be engaged
unless it is easy to toggle the solenoid manually
still I’d prefer to know why there is no ignition when I press the button
was only a week ago that it was last driven
I am wondering about the central junction box to remove and reinstall connectors
my Rangie harman Kardon system through a fit so I ordered a replacement and as I was taking it out I unplugged a connector and then saw I didn’t need to do it with that one and low and behold the old module came back to life
i know have a spare Harman kardon Amp but no Rangie for it to go in
learnt my lesson there don’t order the parts until you have tried everything
spell checkers can’t even spell harman wrongly consistently
Yep been doing that as I am only wanting it to go to position 2
I have no ignition response at all, no lights, wipers anything
In my neighborhood, squirrels eat wires.
Best bet is to connect an auxiliary power supply (50A) and have a quick SDD session.
SDD does not require the ignition on. It will bypass the missing key fob if necessary.
Alternatively, download the shop and electrical manuals at the beginning of this XK/R forum and check fuses and presence of power where appropriate.
surely to communicate with a module it would require power?
and from what i have read about SDD it requires ignition cycles to program??
if i am wrong please tell me more as would be very keen to try any suggestions
in my district all my cats eat everything, including one tonight eating the moths round the garage light, i thought it was the car coming back to life, ecu clicking etc. but no just a cat on the roof of the car "doing mothing"
Another thing worth trying is to put a message on the NZ Jaguar Owners Facebook group, if you are on FB, as there may be someone in your area with SDD, or a more local specialist.

The instrument cluster could be the problem as it links the high and medium speed CAN buses and LIN bus together and there is a bug in some of the 4.2 litre cars that gets flagged during a reflash of the ECM so I wonder if having the battery out for a long time has caused an issue:
I know when I apply a tune to both my 07 and 10 XKRs that while the ECM is being reflashed the headlights come on and the wipers flick across for one cycle so one of the modules may just need the firmware reloading.
Hi was still studying at two oclock this morning, looking at the jag workshop manual and the elitrical diagrams that McJag highlighted. I also read up on the SDD and its process, finding intresting instruction manuals on CCF managment etc. from what i can understand there is a process with the SDD that requires the ignition to be cycled. Post 47 from Bill400 suggested using the SDD and at post 48 McJag asked Bill if this would wake up varuious modules without the ignition being on, Bill hasnt responed as yet so not sure if an SDD would actually be able to do anything.
Reading the screen shot you attached it says the instrument cluster wont respond to the ignition on, which reading between the lines may mean that the ignition would still come on it is just the instruments that would not respond
I have contacted my 'old' garage on the north island as he was an super source of knowledge and a true vehicle ethusiast I have asked him about the SDD and he is putting some feelers out and will come back to me, fingers crossed.
I am wondering about taking out the console to see if i can have a look at the switch
SDD can definitely still talk to some of the modules with the ignition off. I have just plugged my SDD into my '10 XKR which is currently locked in the garage and hasn't been used for a couple of days.
It detects the VIN and this message also appears during the SDD session startup sequence:
These are the modules that it could see with the car locked and asleep. One of the key ones is IPC which is the instrument panel and it would be interesting to compare it to what yours sees when the car is unlocked and in convenience mode:
Out of interest, what is the LED doing, if anything, for the PATS security system at the front middle of the dashboard, by the windscreen. Mine flashes every 3 seconds while the car is locked.
mine isnt flashing at all but then i cannot lock the car , intrestingly today i connected the bateery and the passenger side, i.e. the left side headlight came on, i also pressed the button for the audio which raised the antenna mast and the navigation audio etc came on.
Pressing the interface button the one below the screen to the left sent it to screensaver.
previously the audio button was just for that it would automatically send the antenna up or down, when audio off you still had nav, climate phone etc. I dont often listen to music in cars as i find it distracting, especially when you have a supercharger to listen to, so have never tried the audio with the car off as it were so dont know if this is normal behaviour. i.e. audio comes on along with screen when ignition is off, and when ignition is on the audio becomes' seperate' from the buttons around the screen. previously when it was going the nav phone etc would work without pressing the audio button. least of the problems really at the moment
removed the console and pulled the switches for the start stop and asl, both switches felt 'mechanically the same' couldnt see anything obvious around that area, have left the console off at the moment with the switches replugged
i have pulled every single fuse, tested the mega fuses next to the battery all semmed good, i also pulled relays and replaced to see if there was a bad contact.
not sure how to test the connector on the startstop button for power and dont want to risk any more damage!!!
You can turn the audio on while the car is in convenience mode, i.e. recently unlocked but with the ignition off.
I don't tend to listen to audio in the Jag either but if the screen and boot logo has come on because I have unlocked the car then if I am not planning to actually start it I usually find that I can't turn the screen off unless I turn the audio on first. I can then press the button to the bottom left of the screen twice to turn the screen off then turn the audio back off.
Well my friend has let me know that he knows someone with the SDD so hopefully. Arranging to borrow and plug in
so radio perhaps coming on wasn’t a mark of some sort of progress 😒
With the ignition off are you saying the SDD will wake up the various modules etc. Bill?
Yes. SDD can bypass security and energize the system.
It sounds like the security system is not allowing access.
Normally, a "key not recognized" type of message is displayed but not always.
If a module is hung up - the program pointer stuck somewhere - the module does not respond until reset.
Disconnecting the battery, connecting the unpowered terminals, usually resets modules, but not always.
If the module program becomes corrupt, it is necessary to reprogram the module, no amount of resetting will work.
The way to diagnose and restore your system is to use SDD.
Find someone who is experienced in module recovery.
A 50A auxiliary power supply is critical for using SDD.
No, not 30A.
Programming absolutely will not work without it. And diagnosis may yield false information.
JLR modules are very robust and can almost always be reprogrammed.
The exception is corrosion, usually due to saltwater or other damage.
Watching sdd how to videos shows the first step after connecting to be switch the ignition to position 2,
presumably what you are saying that sdd can energise the system only if the system is already functioning correctly, I.e position 2 can be activated?
