Default 2007 XKR Verses 2008 XK Which Should I Buy?

Greetings...

I'm new to this forum and would appreciate some advice. I am in the process of buying a previously owned Jaguar. I have it narrowed down to two;

(1) 2007 XKR with 25K miles and a 100K factory extended warranty $38K

(2) 2008 XK 29K miles also with a 100K factory extended warranty $56K

I have been told that 2007's have "some issues" also I am concerned about the potential maintenance issues that might been involved with owning a supercharged version?

Thanks in advance for your help

have you driven each car?

I had an '06 XK and always felt that it was lacking .... then I drove my '08 XKR and didn't look back for a second !!!!!!!!

I vote the '07 XKR. I haven't driven the XK, but the XKR is a powerful delight - but you should try to drive both and decide for yourself, if possible. With factory extended warranty, you don't have to worry about potential maintenance issues. And for $38k, w/ 25k miles, that's a great price.

116HP is not necessarily an insignificant thing.

Jaguar XK (X150) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (the model years are off by 1 as North America seems to want to add a year vs what's released world wide.)

$56K seems too much for the '08 XK. I would not pay more than $45K for that car. The XKR would be my choice of the two depending on those "issues".

What was I thinking! The price for the 08 is $47K Thanks for waking me up. That may change some of the advice I'm receiving.

Thanks...

$9000 less and 106 hp more and 1 sec quicker to 60 mph you have to get the 07 XKR.

I've driven both and both the XK and XKR handle like a dream. I was impressed with the XK but the XKR is considerably faster. If power is important you have to get the R, otherwise the XK won't disappoint, but at a higher price than the R? No way.

The only issue for me with th 07s is the antenna mast. I did seek out an 08 XKR specifically for that reason and plus getting the alcon brakes.

I bought an 07 XKR about 8 months ago. I've only had one issue that was covered under the factory warranty, and it had nothing to do with the drive train or critical systems.

I have also put in a 36" soft marine antenna in my spoiler and eliminated my antenna mast. It works perfectly, including picking up AM stations (although I can't tell you the last time I listened to an AM station).

Price for the 08 XK is WAY to high. Go with the XKR - especially since you will have a warranty.

+1 on the XKR I have a 2007 vert, poweful, classy and handles well no issues so far, I also have a a manual switch for the antenna...that I didn't know about....only issue I had was the thermostat going belly up...and I didn't find out about that until it cooled down (its hot here in Texas)

Default Welcome, Newbie!

Welcome to the Forum! You'll find more interesting and helpful information here than you ever would imagine. Your questions about 2007 or 2008 and XK or XKR have been discussed previously, and you can do an advanced search to find those posts.

See this post "Need opinion on 2007 XK" https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2007-xk-62514/ including my 10-24-2011 comments and link to buying advice therein.

I noted your concern about the potential maintenance issues that might be involved with owning a supercharged version. You will find that the most frequent maintenance is repeately wiping the grin off your face every time you get behind the wheel!

I appreciate the feedback on the 2007 XKR V. the 2008 XK. The XKR is Frost Blue here's some pictures MobileMe Gallery

The 2008 XK is Black with Charcoal interior, I have to say that the car, IMHO, looks better in Black.

Any color comments?

I bought an 08 xkr coupe with 22k miles for less than the 08 xk price.

The 07 seems like a good price.

Seems a little cheap, the 07 XKR. No accidents? I'm always leery of a buying a powerful car (Mustang GT, Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, etc.) used, because chances are very good the PO drive the you-know-what out of it. Get am XKR tech to check everything out first before handing over your money. Good luck, I hope it works out for you!
