So I shorted my dome light assembly 2 years ago. The lights havent been working since, but the convertible top switch and garage door openers still work. However, I am now desperate to get the lights fixed. I brought the car in to an auto electrician and he informed me I blew the curcuit so have to replace the whole assembly and charged me $150 for an hour labor without fixing the damn thing. He said he called Jaguar and they told me they discontinued the part.
I checked on ebay and found the ones specifically for the XK is running anywhere from $180 - $250. However, I see the 2002 - 2008 X-Type uses the same exact dome assembly. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable, especially raising the top up and down. The x type one has same button for the sunroof.

I'm surprised that an "auto electrician" wasn't able to repair that dome light circuit, especially since the switches for the soft top and garage door openers still work.

I hope you get an answer to your question about using the X-Type assembly and that it works. If not, there are lots of small, inexpensive standalone universal LED dome lights on Amazon and Ebay that might work.

I happened to notice the same thing recently. The X-Type did not have the parking sensor switch as does the XK.
I have both and can provide photos.
Do you need the parking sensor switch for your XK?

I took a close look at both the xk and x type dome assemblys and noticed there is a difference...both in size/position of the clip connector and the layout. I have just submitted an offer on ebay for one which seem reasobable...<$100.
And yeah. pissed the auto electrician charged me $150 to tell me what I already knew. I actually thought he could fix the lights since the rest of the unit is still working

 

Thanks Bill400. I have reviewed both on Ebay and there is a difference. The assembly is the same BUT the circuit board is different, as well as different connectors. I have made an offer on ebay for one for xk
