Pulled the pump, plastic impeller...is this original type?

Agree - no experience personally, but plastic impellers have been common in cars for a while now. @panthera999 should be able to weigh in as he recently replaced his.

I recall reading a thread here (a few years ago) where a plastic impeller blade had broke off and was blocking coolant flow.

I ordered hoses, gaskets and water pump...then awoke this morning questioning my decision to opt for the ac/delco that has a cast iron impeller. Is there any issue using cast iron with aluminum?

wj
cast iron heads on aluminum blocks have been around for years and you have to account for corrosion when mating the two metals. The impeller isn't in contact with the aluminum. I see no issue.
