I have a chance on a good deal for a GMB 125-6030 water pump.

The impeller is black "plastic". Is this as good a unit as the Jag original?

Don't know about that specific pump but the original early pumps that had such a trouble history had black plastic impellers. This isn't a 12 year old NOS is it? The coolant pump is about the only thing on these cars that is reasonably priced. OEM units typically under $70. What is your good deal price?

I can tell you that my XJ8 pump was replaced by the dealer before I bought it, maybe 5 years ago, and they used a pump with white impellers. You will also find aluminum impeller replacements currently available at a reasonable price.

I have read some posts recommending the metal impeller over all others, and plan to replace mine with metal sometime in the next year, since it now has about 45k miles on it. The original pump failed at about 30k.

 

I went with metal impellors. Despite what any literature says, I feel more comfortable with metal over any kind of stinking plastic.
