2008 XK Conv = amazing gas mileage
We bought this car for weekend fun but my wife has been driving it on a weekly 200 mile trip for school this semester. She is not an aggressive driver at all and usually just hits cruise ~82mph for 90% of the trip. She's been averaging about 28mpg!!! This was a really pleasant surprise. Even with top down shes had similar numbers. I know its not an XKR but for a 300hp sports car convertible its just really nice to see.

That is about right for mostly highway cruising. My '08XK had something like 26+ MPG average over 10K miles of 90 percent freeway driving.
My 2012 XJL, doing the same driving routine, is sitting right at 26 MPG average for the past 4K miles. Our 2012 5.0 XF is right around 20 MPG for mostly non-stop, hilly, winding road driving.
Not bad at all.

That's at least 4 mpg better than I get with my 4.2L around town. Must be your super slick wax. Either that or I go uphill a lot more than you do.

When I first got my XKR 2 years ago, I changed all settings to UK (navigation voice, trip computer units, display language). I was really surprised to be getting 24MPG. I then realized that it's probably because the British gallon is ~20% larger than the US gallon! I changed the display language back to English (US) and my future MPG has averaged 19-20 ever since (but interestingly it didn't impact the historical trip MPG).

I own a 2007 XK and have done a lot of long drives of 700-1800 miles, all on interstate hwys doing 70-80 mph, and it's normal for the car to get 27-28 mpg doing that unless you run into a real heavy headwind of 15-30 mph and then it degrades to the 25 mpg range.
West Texas is fun with a legal 80 mph for miles and miles and miles and miles of it. I understand there's some place in central Tx that allows a legal 85 mph. Not real sure of that one.
