Default 200cell cats plus Xpipe =loud and rasp. How to fix the sound

Ok guys so in my quest for power , now Im at a point where I have 200cell cats installed and just added the xpipe and 2.5 pipe to stock muffler.
So I was hoping that the xpipe will help get rid of the rasp at higher rpms, but was disappointed to find out that it just became more louder over all , and beyond my comfort level.
So thinking to add 2 18" Cherry Bomb glass packs.
Any other ideas experiences ? Maybe replace the rear muffler? Although Im afraid to go in that direction because of potential drone issue...

Alex I've got 100 cell + X pipe + secondary valves permanently shut on my xkr rear box find that did help .

The other option is adding the OEM Jag muffler back onto the mid pipe but obviously still keeping the X pipe in place

Yeah I temporarily shut the valves closed. It's quiet but still ugly and raspy on top

I hated the rasp on my '07 XKR after I took the cats off when they broke. I had four bottle shaped resonators (two per bank and fitted either side of the support plate) and an H fitted and they took the edge off it but ultimately I bought some 200 cell cats and went back to standard with everything else.

These were the original mods:

I also fitted a switch to the exhaust valves so that I could close them when I wanted the car to be a bit quieter.

I was never totally happy with the exhaust on the '07 so have stayed away from after market exhausts with my '10 and have just put the XKR-S mid pipe on it.

Wow so you had 4 total glasspacks and it was still raspy? If that's the case I don't have high hopes for my two 18 glasspacks I just ordered .

Did you read my rebuild thread? My exhaust sounds amazing, especially after a year of driving it.

It was OK up to about 3,500 - 4,000 revs but beyond that I used to wince a little an wish I could go back to a standard exhaust. The cost of OEM cats wasn't justifiable which is why I got the 200 cells.

The dealer I part exchanged my car with still has it on the forecourt nearly a year later so I don't think many people appreciate a loud exhaust. The car had just over 30,000 miles on it when I sold it and it was in very good condition so I am really surprised it hasn't sold. It has a smaller pulley and an epic tune as well so will be one of the fastest 4.2 XKR's out there.

Yes but I can't afford to redo the exhaust like you did

I have no rasp. Recently re-did the entire exhaust, 200-cell cats, 2.5-3" pipes, dual x-pipes (one at cats, one at the rear), dual Magnaflow resonators and Y-splits for carbon fiber quad tips. Around town, 1500-2K RPM the car has a very deep rumble and on the track maintaining 6K RPM it screams.

I've no backbox on my 2014 XK Dynamic R and it sounds just right to my ears

Appreciate that exhaust sound is a very personal (and also an environmental*) thing

So younger drivers may have no upper/pain or irritation threshold, whereas older (60+) will invariably suffer from some audible sensory loss and be more

Although it's usually the upper spectrum that you loose as you age, so am guessing OP isn't an oldster?

https://global.widex.com/en/blog/hum...t-can-you-hear

* Here in the UK houses are invariably more crowded together and a super loud zaust can annoy neighbours. I live in an end of cul-de-sac, which is very much like a box canyon to those of you stateside. My neighbours are all below 50 and have previously voiced (not to me) dislike of the sound of my old XK8 with straight through pipes. Which was reasoning for getting a 5.0l V8 over a Tesla Model S!. When two have commented negatively in the last 10 days since ownership I've replied "Well I don't rev my engine (one of them has a bike a regularly does) and my car is completely legal". I do think, as they all drive quite sedate quiet family cars, that there's just a little of the 'green eyed monster'

This is the hardest part of this V8. Most other V8s are awesome with straight pipes but Jag V8s not so much

Have to do more driving tomorrow, but so far it sounds much more civil. Would guestimate at least a 20,% reduction in sounds and 50% reduction in abnoxious rasp. Have opened up the valves and plugged fuse 19 for automatic closing of them, before it was louder even with the valves closed.
