Default 2010 XK Coupe Buzzing/Vibration - Exhaust?

Hi. New Member with a 2010 XK coupe, 33,000 Miles. I've had it a few weeks now after owning 4 Infiniti G's. Loving it. One issue that is annoying me though is a Vibration/Humming/Buzzing sound at about 1700-2000 RPM.
I took it to an Atlanta Jaguar Dealer who had it a week and then replaced the exhaust Mid-pipe. It went away for about 600 Miles and now its back. I have searched forums here and found issues with older models and a fix that involved a Bracket/strap to stop the vibration. Does anyone know if that same fix may apply to the 2010 model? I am hesitant to take back to the same dealer and perhaps be without the car for days...I wont mention the Dealer here but it was a very disappointing experience. Could there be another more serious issue perhaps? No other symptoms.
Thanks for your input!

I had a part vibrating real bad on my 2008 xk silencer last year, the silencer was to be changed. Not sure it will happen on a 2010 though but he said it was a classic and start knocking with his hand on other exhaust silencer to show this to me...which did not worked indeed but for him it was a commun issue.

Does it do it all the time, or just in specific situations? If the latter, can you reproduce it, or is it intermittent?

Thanks. It happens each time in either regular Drive or Sport mode at about 1700 - 2000 RPM as I moderately accelerate. I can feel the buzzing through the floor. It stops when exceeding the 2000 rpm point.

U2vertigo,
I had this on my 07XK coupe which I acquired at the end of 2011. The fix is well documented as well as being the subject of a Jaguar TSB. I
Sorry I dont know if the issue transferred to the 5.0L engine as a common problem? I got it fixed at no cost to myself by doing my research and confronted the dealership that this is a known defect (otherwise why is there a TSB and special parts made by Jaguar to fix it)? They gave me the spin that as a new customer Jag USA would honor the fix. I also had the 100,000 mile extended warranty so I suspect the $2.5k I paid contributed to the decision. BTW I also traded a G35x for my XK.

If I was you I'd just keep making a nuisance of yourself. Good luck.

Steve

U2...I take my XKR to Hennessy Gwinnett, and deal with Henry Green as my SA. He is outstanding and has always taken care of our cars. They also have a tech there that is top notch, knows what he is doing and he also monitors these boards.

If you have been there and they have not helped you I would be shocked. If you have not been there then I'd try Henry - he will get this taken care of under your warranty coverage.

If you want an independent recommendation then that is Chris Kuhn in Tucker, GA. He owns Kuhn Automotive. He was a Jag tech for years until he opened his own shop and service Jags. He also ha a really smart guy working with him. I have seen them just listen to a Jag and figure out what was wrong with it. But you'd have to pay for them - they obviously can't do work under your factory warranty.

However, I think Henry will be able to take care of this. Give Hennessy Gwinnett a call and ask for Henry Green - tell him R Sculthorpe recommended him to you.

Thanks rscultho! I appreciate the recommendation. I did not take it to Hennessy previously. Its a haul from the Southside of Atlanta where I live but I will make the appointment today thanks to you! The other Dealer's service department was very poor. They covered their "repair" under warranty however and gave me a loaner vehicle. Do you happen to know what an oil change runs there? Thanks again! I will look out for your XKR around town. Love those rims!

Hennessy Gwinnett will give you a loaner as well...either a Jag or a Land/Range Rover.

They are not cheap on the oil change...it is $176.00 (I believe that's the price)...but it is a dealer so you may expect that. But you get what you are supposed to...Jag filter and the "special" Castrol oil.

Having the dealer change your oil and do your service while the car is under warranty will be some CYA in case something big has to be done and they have the records in the dealership of your regular service.

Sounds like the common drone issue. The simple fix is to just downshift one gear.

Sometimes the aluminium heat protector (exhaust ) vibrates...i had this twice with 2 xk.

Thanks. I have heard of this in older models. Does yours do it?

Yes, I have drone if I accelerate slowly through that range. It also does it if I'm just cruising in that range. In all cases, the drone can be immediately stopped with one pull of the left paddle.

I have the Mina exhaust, and I had it installed prior to ever driving the car, so I don't know if my drone is typical of the car, or if it's caused by the Mina exhaust. Either way, I'm so used to hitting the paddle that I don't think twice about it anymore.

Also, it may be my imagination, but it seems to be much less than when I first got the car. I have about 3000 miles on it now.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the feedback. I will take it to Hennessy Gwinnett and have them look at it. I could live with it but if there is a fix I'd prefer to have the buzzing eliminated without the paddle shift move. I'll let you know how it goes.

I should also tell you that my drone range is between 1275 and 1475, which I think is more in line with what the earlier models had.

Default 2010 XK Drone

Hi I have the exact same problem with a 2010 XK, drone/buzz at 1750 rev band, happens almost every time as I accelerate past 1750 revs.
Jaguar main dealer suggested the JSB fix of new brackets around the CAT, turns out that was for prior models even though symptom the same, the bracket was not for the 2010 model.
Heat shield replaced, still not fixed, have installed new back box at £800 still not fixed!
Currently booked in again for them to look again
