Default 2010 XKR - Hard Reset ECU (verification?)

Hello all,
2010 XKR vert. I tried the hard "resetting" of the ECU to delete prior owner's driving pattern. I disconnected the battery (both pos and neg) for about 25-30 minutes. When I started the car, a message popped up that I had to push the brake and the electronic brake. I reset the windows. How do I know if this reset the ECU? The radio stations remained as before. All of the vehicle settings were the same as before. I did notice that it takes longer for the convertible rear quarter windows to go up.....and the front windows don't go up now as the last step of the top being put up. Please advise.

Yes, a Hard Reset resets all the volatile memory. That includes the ECU. However, maybe not the TCU. Did you reset the windows correctly? They will auto-up and auto-down if done correctly. The E-Brake sometimes needs a reset, sometimes not.
Radio, seat memory and dash stuff remains intact.

I think I reset the windows correctly. I pushed them all the way down and held for 2-3 seconds while all the way down and it "clicked", then put them all the way up and held for 2-3 seconds, but did not hear a discernable "click". They do drop about 1-2 cm when I work the door handle.

That's not the correct way. You did the first part okay, hold either UP or DOWN for a few seconds, but then you have to release for a second and then hold either UP or DOWN again for another few seconds. So, hold longer than complete movement, release, hold again for each direction.

So do I have to undo battery again to reset? Again? I hope not.

No, just reset the windows. Then try the top again. If still a no-go, do a manual top reset. Takes about five minutes to complete.

When you did your 'hard reset' did you touch and hold the positive and negative terminals together...as you made no mention of that? As it's such a palava to get to our battery I bought one of these and can confirm it makes a real difference to gear changes

https://www.diesel-performance.co.uk...ox-flash-tool/

It made a real difference to the transmission of my car, and, should I wish to reset the TCU again, I can in about 5 minutes

Also remember that, whilst Jaguar state their transmission is 'sealed for life' ZF who make it recommend a fluid change (IIRC) at 50k miles and then every 30k miles beyond that, mine is on 54k and is going to have mine done at a ZF master centre next month.to have this done, which includes all fluid in the TC

Best of luck
