Default 2012 XKR Average Fuel Mileage

For those of you that have this same engine. What kind of Avg. Fuel Mileage are you getting? I've had my car for two weeks with 9,000 miles on it and the sticker says 22 hwy 15 city and I've been averaging 16.6. Seems low since most of my driving is done on the highways and not around town. I'm also a fairly conservative driver. When I reset it pops right back to around 16. Does this sound normal?

Sounds normal if you are driving conservatively. If you push it (easy to do) you'll be down to about 14 MPG. This car is a gas hog, but really fun! You have to pay to play.

I get 13 mpg combined in my xkr-s. even when I drive conservatively, I don't get close to the published mpg.

Last year we took off for a couple of days, mostly highway vs city. Posted highway speed limit would have been 80 kph (50 mph), which I exceeded slightly with cruise. Here's what I wrote in a thread...

"With a quick and easy programming of the Nav and loading a few CDs we were off, selecting a route option of 2 lane secondary highways. I filled up and reset the trip computer the day before when doing some running around and getting the car washed. I hadn’t done a mileage check before and thought this would be a good opportunity to determine a “touring” usage. I now use cruise control religiously to preserve my licence’s few remaining demerit points, and set it for 6 mph over posted limits most of the time. Over the course of the 3 days the car made numerous stops and cold starts at restaurants, attractions, hotel, Casino and averaged over 23 miles per gallon for the trip, down from over 26 for the highway section before all the stops once we got there. That also included a few bursts of acceleration…a shameless and harmless display of the car’s awesome nature."

My trip computer says I get 19.2mpg (this is "city" driving, surface streets back and forth to work). My daily driving is fairly conservative...I noticed that my MPG dropped last year to around 18 just before I did my service at the dealer. It has been close to or over 19 since (city). I guess the service had something to do with the increase. I will be doing another service in about a month...40K mile service. I only have a little over 35K on the clock but the service schedule calls for 15K miles or "once a year service"...

I get 23 to 24 mpg on highway...

Others have said the trip computer is reasonably accurate.

Totally agree......with my 2009 XKR 4.2L SC engine I get about 16-17 MPG in town and have recorded about 22-24 MPG on the highway. So much depends on ones driving habits and how heavy your foot is on the pedal. It is awefully hard not to get down on it every once in awhile.

My commute to work is a combination of Interstate and city driving. Probably half and half. So this morning I reset the gas mileage thingy drove like a normal person (didn't engage the supercharger, that wasn't any fun) and averaged a respectable 19 mpg. That's comparable to my old CLS 65. But let me tell you when you punch on the gas in the XKR there is no hesitation what so ever. The Mercedes would seem like there was a two or three second delay before it kicked in and if you trying to pass someone that's not good! Gawd I'm sitting here now trying to think up errands to run just so I can go back out and drive it!!!

I've been doing too much London mileage - getting 13 to the gallon (and our gallons are 20% bigger than yours)

I drove the XKR to the car wash this morning and looked at the computer average gas mileage and it read 13.6 MPG. I don't think it has ever been reset and we have about 5,000 miles on the clock since we got it on 8/22/12. This is mostly city stop and go driving by my wife (and she likes to play with it too). Not a car to have if you're concerned about gas mileage, that's for sure.

No complaints about the gas mileage just trying to figure it out. Miss you on the XJL forum. Glad to see your still with us. I've chuckled to quite a few of your comments!

Thanks. I just can't seem to keep a car more than 2-3 years and always want to try something new. I absolutely loved my '11 XJ SC and got more compliments and stares in that car than any other sedan I've owned--its a real looker. It was just time to change and I got infatuated with the almost supercar performance of the Audi S8 and ordered one last December. They gave me a good price for my Jag and put me in a '13 A8L as a "loaner" until my S8 came in, which was supposed to be in a few months. Long story short I had to wait for a '14 model due to tight dealer allocation and its supposed to be at the dealer next week. I am keeping my eye on the new XJR though--might think about that next.
