I can't speak directly to what you are looking at nor for Jaguar cable ends but, generally plugs will have a mark/key indicating pin #1 location on the back side (where the wires enter). It may be a number (1), a mark of some sort, or the plug might have an irregular shape to indicate the starting point. If the plug has more than one row of pin out locations, the numbers will either count up in sequence along that line or will count up as odd numbers then the even numbers start the same way on the row below it.
With out seeing the plug close up, this is a guess at best. Hopefully another member might have experience with what you are seeing and can shed better light on it for you.

This might help a little (2011 model year, but should be the same), though it doesn't show the wires much. I took it when I was installing a power connector for my V1 radar detector; the red wire in the foreground is one of the V1 cable's "probes". Sorry, only pic I have available.
