2014 XKR convertible owners - any input before I buy CPO?
Hi all,
I'm interested in buying a certified pre-owned 2014 XKR convertible with 43,000 miles. Wanted to check in with the experts here before I purchase.
Anything to ask, watch out for, and how much in maintenance to expect? I know you must love it, or you wouldn't be here. Thank you so much.
Oh, and what is Active Exhaust? An after-market add-on or a Jaguar option when he bought this car?
Thanks,
GR

Active exhaust is a system that uses a vacuum pump to close off the two outside exhaust pipes at cruising RPMs and speeds. All four pipe are breathing at idle and WOT high speed situations.
Maintenance costs aren't terribly hateful. Repair costs can be if you insist on dealer level service. These cars do want a good fully charged battery and will kill a weak one quickly causing all sorts of grief. The electronics durability is not world class on my car and IMHO fall short of industry standards. Think Windows Vista level of sometime everything boots up correctly and sometimes it doesn't.
Overall I think these cars are a very good buy if you want an unusual vehicle that performs well.

The Performance Active Exhaust was a Jaguar XKR option on the early 5.0L cars and I believe was standard on the later cars. In normal mode the two outside pipes are blocked off with a vacuum butterfly valve but will open over 3500 rpm. They are open when you start the car but close within 10-20 seconds. You can also open them by pressing the flag button on the console which also changes suspension and transmission functions. 43K seems like high mileage for a 2014 car but the CPO should cover any issues for the next several years. Ask to see the service records.

Don't be afraid of the miles if the car has a service history. My 2002 XKR has over 163,000 miles and my son uses it everyday in traffic. My 2010 XKR has over 125,000. Regular oil changes throughout and no history of overheating would be what you're looking for. Water pumps are a weak point but under a certified progrram would be covered. I didn't know you could get a certified car with that mileage, but if the price and condition are good, don't be afraid.

I am sorry to be blunt and contradict...however 43,000 is NOT high miles. Its the perfect amount of miles!!!
Buy a car with 7,000 and you have yet to discover the gremlins. A car with 40,000 has just passed the ultimate quality test. It will go for another 180,000
I read that in a book a long time ago called "Drive it Forever"

Looks like the Yay's have it But thank you for your opinion. It's appreciated. It's Certified PreOwned and I've seen the 160 point inspection details and will ask about an extended warranted beyond the 5 year, 100K. they will also detail inside and out and rub out any scratches (just one small one I noticed). Tires are almost brand new second set with Abe Lincoln's head plenty covered, Dunlop Maxx's. Won't sell CPO with any recalls still active...47k for a 103K car, vs. a brand new FType S for 71000 that isn't close to 510 hp or convertible...I'll take it and the Nintendo-like GPS. My 2013 Accord's electronics / GPS map, doesn't always start up correctly either. I'll be driving it until it snows and garage it, but yeah, not too worried about selling it for whatever I can get in 5 years unless I keep it like my Eclipse GS from '92 for 10 years. I can fall in love all over again...
