Default 2014 XKR Sport mode driving experience / experimenting

Hi all. Been experimenting with Sport mode. I grew up driving standards (92 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS for e.g.) but with paddle shifters on steering wheel a first. In D, when I punch it on the highway, it is head tearing off fun, that burst from (um, 45 to 70 mph, yeah that's it) almost instant. In Sport mode, even with Dynamic Mode on, seems a bit too smooth, slow to accelerate. Remind me, since my old sticks (unless on backroads doing 40) didn't need a downshift to pass quickly. Do you drop it down a gear to pass quickly in Sport on the highway? Curious of your driving experiences with Sport on. D seems more fun on the highway (even under overpasses, (loud on pedal pump), and Sport more fun around town for downshifts, etc.. But let me know what I may be doing wrong to fully experience Sport the way it should impress me on the highway. Haven't kept my eye on the tac much for how close to redline.

Use Sport Mode, but don't use the paddles. Full Auto Sport Mode is a blast. Course, downshifts for slowing isn't as fun noise-wise.

So you must keep the Dynamic Mode off in order to drive in S without using paddles... But doesn't that make the pipes much more quiet? Difference being quicker acceleration? I'm going to look up gears used in both at diff speeds/RPMs.
Also, I'll have to try S only on the highway again and see if punching it has the same affect as in D.
Thanks.

I find that sport and dynamic in my 2014 garners me the best noise results driving in town with lots of pops and crackles on deceleration, but then have no back-box and is the sweetest sound.

I rarely use the paddles.

???? Of course you can have Auto Sport and Dynamic on. While in Sport (or anywhere else where the paddles are active), pull and hold the Right paddle for five seconds and the trans goes into Auto Mode. Doesn't matter what Dynamic or Traction Control settings.

Gave S a try without Dynamic Mode to open up the tailpipes and to let the car shift for me. It was spirited, but I guess I do prefer controlling where the RPMs fall and noticed her purrring / revving too long at high RPMs for my comfort after taking my foot off the gas. Seemed like wasted effort, but i'm sure if I slammed on the gas again while it was still at high revs for no apparent reason, she would have taken off again quickly. D seems more fun to me on the highway. Oh well. To each their own.
