Those three little words make the $50k car into a $100k car pretty quickly.

 

Being it is an XK base coupe I would suspect the sticker price was somewhere around $85-$90K. I don't suspect it will go that high but it may be a deal for someone around $80K. Keep us posted

 

Read between the lines- $48K was the opening price. To me it indicates thats the lowest they would take.

 

"Reserve price" means there's a hidden price that is the lowest they will take and that price is not usually disclosed especially when they are trying to create the "auction" frenzy/bidding. The lowest price might be $48 or it could be $88K you won't know without bidding and exceeding it OR calling/visiting them to find out. All too often people will inquire on eBay as to what the "reserve price" is and that is just an ignorant question to answer

 

The low starting price is to get initial action on the bidding. Having sold a lot of product on Ebay I have tried every ploy in the book, they put a reserve on the auction for the sole reason that they do not want to sell it too low.

It is a regular dealer so looking at their website and sale offer in their local market they have it price at $74,994. The reserve is probably somewhere below that but I doubt very much lower...

LOL. I do know how ebay works all too well.
What I was saying is that the dealer kinda accidentally showed his hand. The opening bid he set at $48K.
Dont think for a minute that these prices are totally arbitrary- he has a 2015 XKR the opening bid on that is $58K and it has 1500 more miles. Thats spot on the money in terms of price difference between the two.

 

$75K wold be a stiff price for 2 year old used car, base model at that. Wishing them nothing but good luck selling it at that price but seems quite high. Low miles, great condition, as it should be at those miles, but still a 2 year old used car. I could get a slightly used XKR-s for that price easily, another reason why when I'm looking I never look at dealerships to purchase cars.

 

Leeper, you are correct. The Manheim average auction price for a 2015 is around $55,000. That is of course a wholesale number. The problem is that there are very few recent transactions.

A sale price around $62,000 would probably be more realistic, but then you need to add in the CPO. Typically this would add $4,000 or so to the value, so maybe mid $66k for this car?

As far as the Ebay listing, once you put an undisclosed reserve on an auction any price below that is irrelevant, whether it is $1 or $48,000. The thought process of the person who thought up this listing is not for me to determine, for all I know he/she could be a mental midget!

 

Totally non sense at this time. No 2015 is selling at this price at this time. Of course with the history of Jaguars... just sit around awhile and the prices will re adjust...

 

The car is no longer available on eBay. The asking price at the dealer is $74,995 it has 488 miles on it.

A year ago, my local Jaguar dealer was offering $20k off the sticker price on a New XRKS. He could not sell it in a month of Sundays. The fact that this dealer still has several XK from 2 years ago unsold also proves that he cant sell it in a year of Sundays.

It would be a $80k car in 2014 IF NEW. In 2015 I would only pay $70k if New. Even then one would have to be a special fool to buy a high depreciating car after production had ended, and the new alternative was less money. In 2016, with the car being used, I.E. Lemon Laws dont apply, I would not pay a penny over $60k. This dealer is desperate to move his inventory so I would expect him to take a $10k haircut. And we land at $50k.

He aint exactly selling Immaculate Mary here. This car is well past its sell-by date.

 

they have the car listed on their web site @ $74.9k...not a realistic ask based on what I am seeing.


scott jaguar has a 2014 loaded XK w/ 3k miles...their ask is $59k. I think it may be a bit high. I will look at it next week as a possible DD. what do you all think?

That car is super hot. It's the right colors with cool, easy to clean wheels; what's not to like? I had the same color interior and rather enjoyed it.

North Carolina is great market for Jaguar and cars are in good condition. I bought my XK at the Asheville, NC Jag dealer that was a trade-in on a newer XK.

I agree that the colors are killer...I love the radiance and IRR on an xk.


I agree on the ease in cleaning the wheels...a huge issue for me.


I agree that the cars in the Carolinas generally stay in nice condition due to clean roads and lack of snow in the winter.


I bought my xk from scott and must say they were exceptional to deal with. the car I reference is a consignment car that was first listed @ $61k and they are now down to $59k. I honestly wonder if they would accept $50k as it is a consignment?


now my last item...do I want an xk or an xkr? I already have an xk convert for my west coast dd and I love it. will I be happy with an xk coupe or do I need to look for the r?

Money no object, its the color combination I would get. The only reason I did not was it was near impossible to find in the R.

Yes he will take $50. This is not the sellers market for XK- its in the 'has been' category to the average sports car buyer. You can always use the bargaining rationale that what you really want is the seats from the 2015 model.

I am not surprised you like the Ferrari wheels.

Let us know if you need one of us to call and offer $49k as the bottomline and walk away.

 

There seems to be an awful lot of misinformation and assumptions here. This is a car listed at a dealership, that being said there are almost always listed at a ridiculously high price, called a "sucker price" just in case someone is silly enough to pay it. We have no idea what they will take but rest assured they have little into this as a trade-in. Yes that asking/sucker price is very high and they are allowed to ask whatever they want and unless we're in the market we can bash it all we want with no clue as to what it'll sell for. The value is likely in the mid $50's but someone might fall in love and have fat pockets thus will pay far more who knows?!?! I've had a few girlfriends that money was not an issue with, they would trade in their cars every 6 mo's months eating a huge loss but they didn't care

Me personally if I was going to throw that coin I'd opt for an XKR-s low mileage and likely pay mid to low $60's but I'm not buying so it doesn't matter.

 

There are probably at least two dozen "new" XK's of all trim levels still sitting on dealer lots around the country.
What they will ultimately sell for is anyone's guess. However, many are going for deep discounts off of MSRP, which really doesn't mean too much. We do not know how much of a hit the dealer is going to take vs. the JLRNA incentives offered to the dealer(s) to clear the remaining cars out.
As an example, you can still buy a top of the line new 2015 XKR-S convertible with a MSRP north of $144K for $119K. Or you can buy the same XKR-S convertible model from 2013 with less than 2000 miles on it for $77K.
