I purchased my 2011 XKR 3 years ago and after my recent annual service I thought I'd post my operating experience. The car now has 45,000 miles (it is not my primary car). My only failure was a water pump 6 months ago, other than that the car has been flawless with nothing other than routine maintenance. It is still a joy to drive, especially here in Northern California with the top down. I still often just stare at the car like a work of art in a museum as it truly is a timeless and beautiful design. This is one of those cars that just doesn't seem to age...

 

Had mine just over 5 years now and really dont know what i would replace it with. i do not like the ftype

 

Maybe 2015 XKR-S if and when the time comes of course??..................
With 23KMi on mine, looking forward to many years together. The F-Type doesn't do it for me either.

 

These cars grow on you. I bought a 2011 XKR 175 almost new in 2012. Sold it because I bought it to sell. I missed it and bought a new 2013 XKR in 2013 and sold it in 2015 because I had too many cars(2014 Nissan GT-R, 2013 MB SLK55, 2012 Volvo S90 and a 2005 Chev 2500HD) and wanted a convertible XKR. Sold all of the cars except the Volvo. Found the car I've always wanted September 4th, a convertible black XKR with the specs I desired and, of course, at a great price. Yes, I was Jagless for almost 4 years and felt like I was always missing something. These cars are very rare, and even more rare in Canada. I was in San Francisco in July for a week and never seen one X150. Good to hear you are enjoying your XKR.

 

I've had my 420Hp 4.2L 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible over 9 years now. I've thought about replacing it many times with a newer 510HP 5.0L XKR (my 2013 XJ has the 5.0L 470HP engine) because the low-end power is so addictive. But, except for the engine, I haven't seen any other XKR that I like better. The colors, the Alcon brakes, the Adaptive Cruise, the details and the mods I've done make it difficult, if not impossible, to duplicate. Only the 2010 XKR comes close because Adaptive Cruise was standard equipment. It's a rare option that I've never seen on 2011-up XKRs. I've settled in and concluded that for me the 5.0L is overkill and the 4.2L sounds glorious and is quick enough.

The F-Type just doesn't do anything for me, too.

 

Whew...I thought I was the only one. What would be a suitable replacement for the beast? I have found that car, but of course it merely underscores the old adage of the Jag being the working man's car,
a working man presumably being a barrister or some similar professional. After the Jag, a last gen Aston Martin Vanquish. The DB9 is a close second with a gorgeous inside and the exterior is quite
close to the XKR, which could be a good thing or not, though performance is no better. But a Vanquish...that could be a replacement.

 

The XKR, it is difficult to find a replacement without sacrificing either the back seats or performance.

The Lexus LC500 seems to be a good 2+2GT offering, but it is heavier and has less power than the XKR.

The Vanquish fits the bill on 2+2GT, and power, but is in another league on price.

The Corvette fits on price and performance, but lacks the 2+2GT.

Wow I'm not alone I've often thought of this, I too have no idea what I could replace my XKR with. The f type is nice, but it's definitely not a successor to the XK line, I'm still hoping the talk of bringing the XK line back comes to fruition, something Ian Callum said he'd like to see happen, but with his departure I have my doubts. I've looked at the 6/8 series BMW, the MB SL, even a 911, none of them do it for me, while great cars they're a bit a too ordinary, they don't really stick out like our cars do. I find if have to really move up market to find something as or more interesting like the Lexus LC (which looks amazing in my book, but only in a certain colour and if they come out with a convertible version), a Maserati Granturismo, or any Aston Martin. Fortunately that day has not come, and I'm still hoping for a comeback of the XK.....

 

Had my 2009 Portfolio 5 years now.. all it needed were new brakes and rotors last year. Go out on all the local Porsche Club Rallies with it and always get plenty of compliments. They may have depreciated alot, but I really don't care.... its a timeless beauty I plan to keep for a a long time. (those are roses left in the door handle )

 

And to make matters worse, the dealer (a friend of my son) offered this to me at a $100K discount while insisting I take a test drive. It was
a cold day, so I hid behind the risk of hard tires and a heavy foot, though I knew, if I had I'd be on a different forum today.

 

I have repeatedly tried to like the F-type, but once in the seat all I can see is the XE interior. Hardly a bespoke $100K+ place to be. The Benz GT
is soooo much nicer, the new BMW 8 a colossal disappointment, and inside looking out is where we spend the majority of our time. The Lexus is
appealing except for that god-awful face. It's a barren landscape of suitable alternatives, but maybe we won't need one, at least not until the
Marc Zero hits the streets. Saw it in Geneva and it has the proportions and shape to make any XK lover drool. Batteries included!

 

Highest form of flattery and confirmation of timelessness, the shape of our car is still being made today.

There is only one advantage the XK still has over the Aston, it doesn't come across as flamboyant to hardly anyone.
