Its the same V8 doing 575 on the Project 7 so we know it can do MORE then the 550 in the XKR-S and the F-Type R so we know its got legs... I would think they could mod some things and bump it above 600??
I'm sure I read somewhere, it may have even been on here that Jaguar had claimed to have got 750bhp out of the stock (internals) V8. Its seems entirely feasible 100bhp per liter is very low for a forced induction motor.
With a simple tune and pulley change the hp can be increased to 620hp. I'm sure with other bolt on mods the hp could be increase to over 700hp. However, the XKR has difficulty putting 510hp to the pavement. Another 200 hp will be insanely scary.
Yeah the engine is already very tuneable with just a map and pulley, and like you say traction is an issue as stock! But it would be interesting to see how far it could be taken using simple bolt on mods; well designed intake, full exhaust system etc.
The gearbox is an unknown as well, I know it's rated at 700NM, but how conservative is that rating?
Suggest you check the XK8 Forum. Some members have upgraded superchargers to another brand (Kenne Bell?) with great results. We share the same basic motor, except for direct fuel injection.
There is a member on the XK8 Forum (Arvos or Avos) who sells a kit for XK8. He may be able to market a kit for the XKR. Whatever, I think he has a wealth of info on supercharger upgrades/changes.
Often overlooked by tuners are upgrades to intercoolers. There is usually some room for improvement.
It was my understanding that the 4.2 and the 5.0 share nothing... (Two totally different designed motors.) Am I in error?
Vince
No you're right, there's no shared parts between the 4.2 & the 5.0, maybe a bolt or two, but that's it...
There seems little need to upgrade the supercharger on the 5.0 more that just fitting the pulley. These engines can make >625HP with the standard blower + pulley/tune. With extra tweaks like cats, intakes, I think 650HP is the upper limit for what can be done cost effectively.
Maybe a more efficient twin-screw could get you a bit more, but for the time & costs involved, it's not worth it.
The layout of the supercharger, throttle body & charge coolers is totally different on the 5.0, it wouldn't be as easy to adapt a twin screw like it was with the 4.2.
I would think upgrading to the tvs2300 would be much easier and could produce much more power than the fuel system and internals could handle. Finding someone that could tune for e85 with stock blower would be the direction I would go if the fuel system can keep up.
You need a blower with front drive, front inlet, & top outlet that will physically fit in the slot where the stock one goes. That's not an off-the-shelf item anywhere...
Here are some pics of the TVS R1900 off the 5.0, it is completely unique to JLR. Trying to package a "universal" blower into the available space with a shaft drive down the side...good luck...
And for the money involved to get Magnuson or Harrop to make you a one-off custom TVS2300 (probably $15-$20K) you will get maybe 50HP, not worth it...
Kenne Bell has said "we will not make backwards superchargers" so no chance with them.
Thanks Cambo, I had not seen the JLR version off of a car. That is a strange beast.
Ever seen one with the snout and front cover off? I'm having a hard time imagining how you get the gear drive in there without having some torturous path for the air to follow.
Just for comparison, here is a Kenne Belle 2.6L and the 4.2L setup. As Cambo said, totally different.

Arden offers 5.0 TS kit. Makes 680bhp. Includes stronger pistons, additonal ECU and exhaust including high flow cats. This kit if for those who does not care about the money spent so much http://shop.arden.de/jaguar/jaguar-f...orkit-kit.html
I wanted to add more information to this post. There is a new version of the the TVS1900 superchargers being used for the past year or two. Jaguar and Rover have moved away from a vacuum operated bypass valve to an electrically controlled bypass valve. Just something to think about if someone ever decides to try to swap superchargers on the newest Jaguars. (See images. First image older version next to new version. Second image latest version with electronic bypass actuator.)
As a follow up,of one of the earlier posts, I looked into putting the Jaguar 5.0 TVS1900 supercharger onto the 4.2 block. Very very difficult! The throttle body inlet sits right over the block's water outlet elbow. If would be a great way to go on the STR engine, but much easier to go with AVOS's twin screw upgrade on an STR.
