ABS Module No Communication
Hello Everyone,
I need some advice. My 07 XK is giving me a no communication error for my ABS Module on my JLR SDD causing a no start condition. If I replace this module with a used unit can I program it with my SDD? I'm getting mixed information. Thanks for any help I can get.

I see this is your first post…
As per the workshop manual, the very first pinpoint test is confirmation of the health of the battery.
It may seem odd, but the number one reason for failed communications errors in the CANN bus is “inactivated” modules.
There are many threads on this situation. Once you complete Pinpoint test 1 with success then, we move on to Pinpoint test 2.
Therefore, with the engine not running, with the battery cold (no charging or drain for 6 hours), what is the reading of the battery voltage?
Cheers.

Thanks Guy,
I'll check it out when I get home this afternoon. When I was using the SDD I had a charger on a new (I know new doesn't always mean good) battery that I swapped in after this problem with no brake pressure had started.
Again, thanks Guy and I'll post the voltage this evening.

Before trying a different module, I would study the wiring diagram and check the cables which run, indirectly probably via the main ECU, from the module to the OBD socket for continuity.

After that battery check, list the specific codes you saw in SDD. You need a worksop manual but SDD will steer with the pinpoint tests code by code. Here's a link for the manual - it has both the electrical guide and workshop manual. The manual you want is labeled "Service Manual". The other manual with the VINS listed in the title are for 2010 onward. Downloads are free. Donations appreciated:

Thanks for the link Sean! I'll be donating.
I wish could remember the code. This getting older thing sucks.

Well you have SDD so the codes are readable. The manual covers many pinpoint tests but with some codes, it simply says follow the pinpoint tests. Thankfully, if those specific tests aren't in the manual, they're in SDD.
Well....apparently 12.4V isn't enough for me to talk to the ABS module and my poor battery charger is only good for 12.4V. After jumping across the starter fuse and allowing the alternator to charge my new battery I could communicate with the once dead ABS module and recalibrate the pressure sensor. Then once I got the code cleared it was happy once again. Let's just hope it stays that way. Thanks everyone for the advice!
Correct. A battery that rests at 12.4v is at best holding 60% capacity.
To get an accurate measure if your battery, following your charging, let it rest 6 hours, then test it.
If its at 12.4v, time for a replacement.
FWIW, replacing the battery is faster, cheaper, easier than replacing the EPB.
