Adaptative front light system
I would find a type specific code reader and try to see what codes the adaptive system is giving. The system has two lamp steering modules, two lamp steering module drivers on the lamp housing and a master chassis controller. For troubleshooting I would pull both lamps and swap them side for side. Just set them on a towel in the lamp opening and plug them in. That'll help isolate the lamp and steering module from the chassis. If the problems follow the lamps, swap out the steering driver on the back of the lamp housing and see what results that gives.
Have you downloaded the free service manuals and wiring diagrams? Makes things much easier to understand.

Dear Ranchero
Thank you very much for these tips.
I have over the past weeks had the AFS failure come up about 10 times, always with the driver side headlight pointing down when it happens.
Will try to follow your side-swap suggestions. However what makes it difficult, is that the fault usually disappears after 2 ignition on/off cycles.

With the car off, bang the light with an open hand a couple of times, then restart. It should go back to normal. Mine kept going on over several weeks, and each time at another forum member's suggestion, I gave it a good, swift hit in the "eyeball" and it disappeared. It's now been months since it has happened.

I also tried that. Usually it worked. But it is difficult to tell for me if the bangs on the headlight are necessary to get it back to work. For the AFS error to clear, 2 ignition cycles are needed anyway I think.
Question: does one of your headlights point down, when the AFS warning light is triggered?

Thanks. Same here. Always driver side (i.e. left side). And I have only 10k mls on the odo!
If you ever find the root cause for the fault, please publish here. I most certainly have the same problem.
@Ranchero50
Thanks! I understand in your case - as described in your build tread - you pulled the headlight open and found worn wires inside that needed to be repaired to fix the AFS warning light, right?
Depending on the feedback I get when I have the Jag dealer read codes, I will as a next step probably swap the headlight steering module drivers mounted on the back of each headlight side/side, in order to see if that changes the behavior. I just can’t believe that my headlight interior wiring could be bad after only 10k mls.
