Default AFS warning light...

Hi all, my car is a 2008 Jaguar XKR coupe. The AFS warning light is flashing on the dash for a few days now, and the left headlight is pointing downwards...Jaguar has issued a technical bulletin in 2014 regardind the AFS warning light, pointing out that the problem is with the ADAPTIVE headlamp leveling control module (part nmbr:C2P23697)

Do you know where this is located?

They are attached to the rear of each headlamp unit.
Try bonking the headlights semi-hard a couple times with the soft part of your hand with the car closed and locked, then start it up again and see what happens.

No, those are the AFS power modules. The AFS control module is just one (C2P23697) and it is somewhere under the engine bonnet...

I'm pretty sure it's covered in the X 150 service manual that's available free online. Check out my build thread to see how to troubleshoot them before focusing on the chassis module itself.

Yes, I have the service manual and there's a picture showing the AFS control module somewhere inside the engine compartment but I can't locate it by just opening the bonnet...

I have gone through your entire build post, amazing automotive stuff! Unfortunately I am not that handy and brave to try and open the headlight...

Based on the picture location I would remove the plastic cover near the windshield and look under there for the module.

I'm going with in the wheel well behind / under the coolant expansion tank.

It's three bolts to remove the headlamps and swap them side to side. If the problem follows the lamp then it's a waste of time chasing / replacing the chassis module. If it follows the lamp, swap the lamp module to determine where the problem is.

Ranchero50, yes that makes absolute sense swapping the headlights, I will do that ASAP. I have swapped the power modules of the headlights (behind each headlamp) and the problem remained with the left one.

The AFS module is bolted to the back of the headlight housing.

You can swap L to R to verify but unlikely the cause.

The actuator is probably bad and it is not available for service as it’s built into the headlight assembly.

Is the smallest of these modules what you are looking for?

Jwooky, that's the AFS POWER module you are talking about and there is one for each headlight, bolted at the back.
The AFS CONTROL module, (which Jaguar suggests in a technical bulletin isssued in 2014 that could be the culprit for the AFS warning light) is just one, somewhere inside the engine compartment.

The module shown down at the left looks it's the one. Part nmbr is C2P23697, but it is not mentioned here...

Can you take me through this picture please?

Since it is described as the base of the A pillar, I assume that the opening to the right of that picture is the door aperture so you would need to take the righthand footwell trim under the dash off to get to it. See the area circled in red in the attached.

Is there any post showing how to gain access there? Is that trim just clipped there?

I am confused because the attached instructions from the workshop manual imply that it is by the sub woofer but that is in the left hand foot well on a RHD car.

I have checked the connector references in the original picture I posted and the smaller one is definitely the correct module. The larger module is the Keyless Vehicle module which is behind the right hand cover in the drivers foot well so I would be inclined to remove that one rather than the left hand one in the passenger foot well.

Judging by the workshop manual you ease the front section up then pull the whole panel towards the rear of the car.

Ok, I swapped the two headlights and unfortunately the problem follows the left headlight....

I am wondering whether I should go for a new -expensive- headlight or try my luck and hand it over to some xenon light specialist who will try and fix it....

Thought there was a thread, not too long ago, where someone found a mechanical connector arm had disconnected inside the housing, and they were able to pop it back together and fixed their problem.

I found that inside the head light assembly. Mine gave no codes, the lamp was stuck aimed down and to the right.
