Default After overseas trip XK touch screen not working.

Greetings,

I have a Jaguar XK 2011. I was traveling for five months and let the car sit and the battery died. Everything on the car works except the touch screen and radio - I can still blindly adjust the heat/AC.

I have replaced the battery 2x. I have done a 'hard reset' on the car - removed both of the battery wires and connected them together for 10 minutes. When I reattached the leads the touch screen flashes on with a Jaguar logo and then goes off and stays off. I have checked all the fuses in all three locations and they are all good.

Nothing else has been done to the car besides being dead for a while. The car drives fine and all other electronics (besides the touch screen controlled portions) work great. The car drives great.

Is there some other kind of reset I need to do? Is this a radio thing and if so how to I reset that? Is it a nav system issue? I have the DVD in the drive in the back.

I don't live near a dealer as there is only one in my state (Oregon).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Odds are the battery isn't fully charged.

Wade, please don't take offense but have you pushed the "Home" button after the screen goes blank?

Or the "screen on" button......
Just sayin', stuff happens.
I say either dead/low battery or the TSD took a ****.

5 months is a lot of time for corrosion and oxidisation to effect battery contacts, grounds etc.

Also gives rodents plenty of unhurried time to nibble away at wiring looms.

This happened to me once when I was in the hospital for a week, and my car sat in the parking lot during that period. When I went to drive home, the car started up right away but my screen remained blank and stayed that way for the 15 mile ride home. When I got home I tried restarting the car (the cure for most of my electrical glitches) but it was still blank. I then locked and unlocked the car and restarted, and everything returned to normal as it has been for the year and a half since.

Ted, I know that your XKR is a daily driver, which keeps the battery charged. Because you mentioned "electrical glitches", I was wondering if you occasionally use a CTEK or similar battery maintainer? If not, you might want to do so.

My XKR has never been my daily driver (especially now during the pandemic). I've always kept it on a battery maintainer and never had any electrical gremlins. I consider it to be cheap insurance.

I use my XKR everyday, and I drive it quite a bit each day so I've never used a battery maintainer even though I have one as well as a charger. Never had a problem except that one time.

Default Touchscreen just shows the Jaguar logo

I can not access any of the other functions: radio, nav, climate, etc.

Did a couple of restarts but no change.

Any tips on how to fix or find problem?

A low battery is your issue but I found with my '07 that turning the car off and on again wouldn't bring the touch screen back to life. I had to lock it and wait for it to drop out of convenience mode.

I will check out the battery and replace it. Thanks for the information.

I too can confirm with my 2008 4.2 XK-R that when the screen went blank (two separate times, months apart) the way I reset it was to switch off, lock the car, leave it for about 30 minutes or so, then do a restart and the screen came up again. This has worked twice for me. No idea why it seems to sometimes blank itself, but that method fixed it for me, and for others it seems. Useful to know.

Great tips. Plan on replacing the battery this week.

Should cure the problem. At least now I have some ideas how to solve the problem in the short run.

I have seen that’s a super common problem and replaced the battery with a new one twice, to no effect. =\

Steve - When replacing your battery, make sure the new one is fully charged, either when installed or charge it your self with a 10 amp charger.
