Curious.
This front splitter is layered up with fiberglass on the back.
After watching a few videos the phrase..
"many manufactures will apply fiber glass layers behind a single layer of carbon fiber to cut costs and reinforce the part..."
Sure looks like that to me...
You can see the fiberglass weave here...
You can see how the part has been scraped so many times underneath that it has worn through the carbon fiber to the fiber glass.
Yeah, those never last regardless, unless you have a show-only car. Putting CF there originally seems like wasted cost and effort, the most expensive material in the highest wear area. Dumb.
I don't know how they described it in the sales papers but if they claimed "carbon fiber part" it's a scam... that's just a carbon fiber finish.
A carbon fiber piece is made out of carbon fiber layered in resin (polyester or epoxy) only...otherwise the structural strengh and advantages of CFR are drown to zero and they are used just for aesthetic purpose.
I'm almost sure they would have to precise it in EU because it's a lie to claim these are made out of Carbon fiber.
I was hoping some one with an RS would know. Id imagine what i have is a replacement from Mina Gallery as it certainly isn't worth the few 1000 dollars jag wants for a new one!
Thnx..im pretty encouraged by my touchups so far. It wont be perfect underneath but you should see the slope on my driveway to get in the garage. The splitter will scrape if i drive straight on and because of this, I'm pretty hesitant to get a new Mina version as it will just get scraped on the underside again regardless.
The genuine IS fully carbon, light as a feather. Mina Gallery and perhaps others offered fiberglass copies from molds of the original part as a lower cost alternative.
