Default Airbag light is on but no OBDII errors

Hi Gents

I have bought a xk with a small front damage that I have fixed. The passenger airbag was deployed and I had to change the dashboard and a replaced the airbag. I removed the crash Airbag ECU and had sent it in for a Crash Data Reset. I have deleted all errors with my obdII scanner and it´s showing no more errors. unfortunately, the airbag light is still on.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you
Frank

Most of the less expensive OBD readers will read only powertrain (P) codes. You will need a reader that can extended OBD body (B) codes.

+1 on Dave's comment.

Cheapest handheld to get the code read and cleared is the icarsoft LRII, or Foxwell 510

Thanks David and Mark. I will try one of the mentioned OBD Scanners and let you know the results.

Bye

It may be a C or B code (or just about maybe a U code). None of those are OBD II and so an ordinary tool won't report or clear them.

any option on that ? I assume a Jaguar dealer will not clear the codes.

Thanks

The airbag warning is controlled by the instrument cluster. It is normally illuminated for the 3 second indicator check when the ignition is switched on. However, the indicator remains illuminated until the instrument cluster receives a turn off message on the high speed CAN bus from the Restraints Control Module (RCM).

As already stated in earlier posts, you cannot troubleshoot this with an ordinary scanner as errors can set Bxxxx or Uxxxx codes.

As a result of the front end damage, it could be as simple as the RCM permanent memory store is full following too many transitions/events.

Assuming the vehicle is European specification, there is also RCM to Pedestrian Protestion Module (PPM) signalling which could be a factor.

You have no reason to protest and every reason to be thankful as you don't have this diabolical device on US spec XK's.

I had the car on a professional BOSCH OBD tester last night and found 1 error but clearing didn´t brought any change. Could it be still the RCM ? It has been restored to default before I have exchanged the deployed airbag (wires were allready disconnected) and luckywise the car has not a PPM installed. What about the crash sensors in the front, could they cause the trouble ?

No?
That crazy bonnet-popping explosion upon front impact? No, my US car does not have that installed. Never was installed. No vehicles I've ever heard of in the US have those.
