Default Anyone have a steering column squeek too?

when I start my car and the steering wheel comes back down to my set position, it makes this god awful squeak/squeal of plastic on plastic (i assume that's what it is), until it has finished moving into position. it only makes this sound coming down, but not going up when I turn the car off and i'm getting out. I am hoping that it's just a lube fix between two pieces that are touching. anyone had this issue before? thanks.

I have had the same problem with each of my XKs. the Steering wheel assembly was replaced on each of the two XKs under warranty on each of my two XKs and the XKR has been lubed several times. By the way, you should include your vehicle's description as to year and specific model in your signature. That way you will get a better response when asking for advice.

I had the same thing and had to take to the main dealer in the end as very annoying.

Other models suffer with a similar noise that is a quick fix by putting additive in the power steering fluid but this unfortunately wasn't that!
It isn't the case of squirting some WD in either as wasting your time!

The first diagnosis was higher up behind the airbag (i forget the name .... steering boss?) but that didn't sort it. They didn't charge for that but it was a bearing right down the steering column in the end and think cost about £200 but sorted it.

tnx gents. I was hoping this would be a much easier fix that simply involved removing some of the paneling and getting some lithium grease in there. uuuugggggg.
