Has anyone found a way to upgrade or replace the infotainment system on the 2014 XK? I realize it also manages the climate control and other functions, but surely someone has come up with an upgrade. Please advise. Much appreciated. I absolutely love the styling and driving performance of my IRR XKR-S, but the infotainment system is very disappointing. ;-(
I am not sure what functions you want to upgrade, but this thread should get you started. The thread has been very active and at or near the top of the forum for quite a while. Perhaps you've looked at it - if so, I am missing something in your question...
Is this what you want? If so, reach out to Cambo. He’ll provide the kit and installation instructions. I’ve had mine for about 6 months and couldn’t be happier!
I PM'd Cambo a few weeks back and never heard from him - he must have missed it. Is the kit available anywhere else? The JagWrangler?
I’ve found Cambo to be very responsive, so he must have missed it. Try again. His website is oldjaguar.com. He’s located near Sydney, Australia so note the time difference from PA. I know there’s a lot of interest/activity around the android tablet screen. I have a unique perspective as I installed an android 10 system into my Tiguan winter driver. It works fine, but the wireless CarPlay isn’t as seamless and dependable as the kit in my XK. The XK connects to my iPhone instantly, the android takes time and fiddling with it to get connected. Wired works instantly on both. If I had a “do over” I would still get Cambo’s kit...
My understanding is Cambo kit doesn’t work on the 2014s. I would love the upgrade but it seems that Canavie is only option and seems risky . Any alternative, or if I’m wrong about Cambo option I would be thrilled to upgrade. Love my XKR and infotainment is only desired upgrade.
Thanks. I was aware that Cambo is in Australia. I've installed his Bluetooth streaming adapter to use with my iPhone - although I bought that from The JagWrangler, not directly from Cambo.
I was curious how much more functionality the CarPlay kit provided, but I can't find a good detailed write-up. I've looked on the JagWrangler site and it's not there; Cambo's Facebook page does not seem to give details; and I can't seem to connect to his website, oldjaguar, com - the server keeps timing out. Thus the PM to Cambo. Since I've not heard back, I am still frustrated about whether/how to purchase it.
I'll try another PM to Cambo, as well as a message from his Facebook page.
There is the other option with an Android TV box, but the Touch function isn't available on those specific screens. That's what I use, with pretty much Torque displayed at all times. There is a TON of other stuff available, but again no Touch on those screens.

If you can be more specific about what you want to know, I’ll try to help. It’s CarPlay, touch screen works, Siri works, make and take calls, reply to messages, map options. My Siri has an English accent😎

Thanks very much. That's a good summary of what's involved. I can also research CarPlay on the internet in general, but I'm not sure whether there are different capabilities depending on the car it's installed in. Anyway, thanks for your help, and I hope to hear back from Cambo with more info on pricing and availability.

Hi Bill, I only got your PM this morning, have replied in the meantime.

The kits will work on the later X150 too, but the problem is the AUX input for sound. None of the X150's had the AUX enabled from the factory, and to activate it in a 5.0L car is a bit difficult. Jaguar dealers can enable the AUX in the 4.2L cars, but to do it in the 5.0L cars requires some special programming, which they can't do. I can do it, but that doesn't help you in the US....

Well actually, it seems that those guys went their own way, and put together a kit that doesn't use the touchscreen, but an external dial controller. I haven't heard from them in ages, so whatever they are doing, it isn't with me.

Carplay is a connection between your iPhone and your vehicle infotainment system. For gps, it uses the apps available on your phone. I use Apple Maps a lot because it’s native to Apple. I like google maps because it has traffic info that Apple Maps doesn’t have. Many use Waze for the same reason. There’s no “Bluetooth” with CarPlay. Calls come through your phone...music stored on your iPhone can play through CarPlay...apps like pandora and Spotify work if you have them installed on your iphone. I like SiriusXM and can use the app via CarPlay. I pay for the subscription for my wife’s car that doesn’t have CarPlay and have access in both of my CarPlay equipped vehicles without buying subscriptions. There’s voice control using “Siri” on my iPhone. I can ask for directions and she will open the maps app and start navigation...if I get a text, Siri will read it to me, ask if I want to respond and send the response I dictate...all with a British accent that fits my Jaguar...
Don't hate me for my super-dumb question, but I've read two of these threads, I'm deep down the rabbit hole, and am in information overload and I think my question is simple:
- I have a 2010 XKR.
- I'm an apple guy. Have an Iphone 8, girlfriend has an Iphone 10.
- I have that little 6-inch black cable that seems to have odd pin connections on both ends.
- is there a cable I can buy from Apple to connect that phone to that cable that will allow my to play songs on my phone? OR, use spotify or Iheart radio, or the like?
- would this require a dealer visit to "activate" something or reflash something in the car?
- the Apple Carplay posts are unusually confusing. I can install it on my phone easily, how does it pair with the car?
I know the answer is in one of these threads but honestly I can't sort it anymore.
Thanks.
