Back seat armrest
After spending 2 days under the knife, 2 more in ICU and 13 under observation, I've been sprung to resume my bad habits. The cardiac quacks say I can't drive for at least the next 6 weeks so I can merely fantasize my next drive.
I'm wondering if anyone has replaced the silly center armrest in the back seat with something a touch more practical. It would seem a thin pad just covering the wiring and the tunnel would suffice and free up a little space for the wife's travel needs. That little bit of vertical space could be utilized.

Glad that your humor remains....and you might not be driving regardless as all the snow may not be conducive to XKR driving (my brother from Bethlehem tells me he got 8 inches).
BTW, I have no idea about your query, and she who must be obeyed has managed (so far), except I won't let our Lab in the back seat area.
Take care, and do what the Docs say, which I know from personal experience is easier preached than executed.
Best,
WRAIR

Ouch! Take care so you can get back to drivin’.
I don’t recall that there’s much wasted space under that cover. Took that and the seat bottoms out once on a road trip to try to carry some taller stuff, didn’t help, so put everything back in and put the tall item on the front seat, while the wife rode in the back.

Do you really want to be squeezing yourself in there the to have a look after surgery...I'd have thought that'd be worse that driving?
Wife's travel needs irrelevant ATM, if not suitable tell her to buy herself something else

If memory serves, it's not very thick. Maybe 1.5". I think you'd have a difficult time repurposing the space while still keeping it looking nice. A simple leather covered 5mm thick plywood wooden shelf with a front lip maybe? Pretty simple cut and glue construction. Little time with the fitment and send off to get covered. I'd be tempted to so something similar with the seat back as well so it looks "factory" and not modified.
Me, I just chuck stuff back there and with the deep seat pockets it stays put.

What people have said above....
Removing any panels/seat parts in the rear seat area will not yield additional usable space as the seats and panels are pretty much as minimal as they are. They are also quite light so no weight savings. Doing a 'rear seat delete' will change the appearance from 'seat' to 'shelf' or whatever, nothing really is gained. If you get a one-piece level deck where the seats are and not contoured, you will actually LOSE quite a bit of usable space.

Best wishes on full recovery by the way!
Is there a part number for the little connector things that hold the armrest in place? I had to pull it off and found that all the plastic gee-gaws were broken, and I would like to replace them so that the armrest remains snug.
Think the part number you are looking for is: C2P5117
sweet Geesus Don!. Let's hope you don't fantasize over a triple cheeseburger and shake. Seriously, take care of yourself.
If it's not gee-gaws, it's those confounded widgets, thingamajigs, doo-dads, and whatsits. Life gets more peculiar with age, but it's always an adventure.
Never had a problem with them, it was all the dammits and the metric gahdammits. At least I don't worry about the Whitworth wtf's.
