Backup Camera Retrofit: Pre-2012 XK Models

Navtool has said this since your post. Just got an email saying it should be available soon, but didn't get any answers about the concerns posted here regarding having to start the Navigation and accept the video request and then turn it off.
May just give up on this dream an rely on the sensors.

I just checked NAV-TV's website and they show backup cameras available for Jaguar XK models up to 2006. They do not list any backup cameras for 2007-up (X150) models.
What model year XKR is your NAV-TV backup camera installed in? Any idea why they don't show availability for X150s?

If so, can you post pictures of the backup camera display on the touchscreen?
It would be very helpful if an actual X150 owner with a NAV-TV backup camera system would share his experience with us.

This is just one of two threads that discuss backup camera retrofit (2007-2011) X150 models.
The second thread is: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...etrofit-88209/ In particular, see the posts by WhiteXKR and rscultho.
I am eagerly waiting for an update from WhiteXKR on the status of his rear view camera project.

My time has been very limited of late, and all the spare hours have been going towards engineering the XK Remote Top, which is almost done.
This will have some great features though:
-The ability of your remote to control the convertible top from outside the car
-The button inside will have a one touch feature so you do will no longer need to hold your hand on the roof console for the entire top cycle.
-You will now be able to raise the rear quarter windows to reduce wind noise.
I am still working out the last couple of kinks but it will be ready soon. This will be pretty easy to install, but it has proven to be a very difficult mod. to develop for the 2007 and later XKs. The amount of time this has required has set back all my other plans.

The good news is I still plan to do a rear camera version that does not require navigation activation if it proves feasible as my next project...but unfortunately I have no progress to report.

Yes, the car will unlock when the top is dropped and locked when the top is raised with the remote. Operating the top will be a simple two button sequence on the remote.

Update on the '06-'11 X150 Backup camera project
Ok - so I traded emails with a guy named Tony at Nav Video. Their video interface connects to the video output of the Navigation unit in the trunk. I originally thought that when they referred to the "nav unit" I thought they really were referring to the computer driving the display.
I have no idea why they would develop a video interface in this way. It makes it impractical to use without significant manual intervention. So, yes, you first have to be in nav mode (which requires several manual steps), then when you switch into reverse you get the reverse sensor image, so then you have to tap the display to get the camera image. Then after switching back to drive you have to tap the display again to go back to normal display.
Not very practical in my opinion. If I can locate a schematic for the display input to the touch screen I might investigate creating a video interface that could be used such that the camera image could be displayed automatically as it should be.
The camera and its activation is a fairly simple challenge. The display is the big challenge.
So, there you have it.

I have installed the backup camera to a 2008 XK. It is quite a pain in having to be in nav mode & then turning off the park aid each time. The unit we used came from Navtv in Florida. The install is easier than splicing into RGB lines on the early cars & also nice to have 12 volts to the tail lamps.
I finally had some time this week to pull the video screen from the vehicle and start digging into the what is needed to interface a backup camera so it switches automatically on reverse no matter what mode the display is in.
I am happy to say it seems entirely feasible!
I will be ordering parts and build a proof of concept demo, then post the results. If all goes well, I will then develop a production version of a well integrated backup camera system. Stay tuned!!

I'm happy being first in the USA.
You're first in Canada.
We're both first.
It depends on how you define the word "first".
